Ultra short barrels, do they have a use ?

I have always liked mine, it’s been a fun gun to shoot. I shot a lot of grouse with it that one year, not the most practical hunting shotgun l but I got plenty of those if I want practicality. If I can ever find a slug that will shoot acceptably out of my fully rifled barrel I’ll use it for some spring bear hunting for shíts and giggles.

Right tool for the job i know lol but sometimes it is fun to experiment and make a ladder work as a hammer.

Sadly, our return rate is about as low with people that show up for skeet with tactical shotguns. For some reason , once they get beaten up with a tactical shotgun, instead of trying a more suitable shotgun, they decide that they just don't like skeet, and never return. In most cases, even when offered another shotgun to try by another member, most are too stubborn to accept the offer.

That very well could be true, or maybe they realize that they would rather be shooting buckshot and slugs with their short barrel shotguns. Personally I’ve never been that interested in clay sports, I have fun whenever we do it informally but I have no desire to do it at a club. I much prefer to go hunting or shoot slugs and buckshot with my shotguns, regardless of barrel length. I own barrels from 12.5” out the 30”, take a guess which sit in the safe collecting dust lol.

That’s the plan, I have one more thing to test this year for factory offerings and I’m still hoping to see some 12g Accutips show up now that new Rem ammo is flowing somewhat again. I’ll be casting slugs and buckshot this year and will start down that rabbit hole with my rifled barrel.

Hunting bears with my assault style 12g will be a blast I think lol.

I forsee lots of fortunecookie45lc and bubbaroundtreeoutdoors in your future lol

I have also seen that on occasion, a guy comes out, shoots a few rounds with a borrowed gun, and enjoys it , then shows up three weeks later with a tricked out Berreta DT11, and can't figure out why he is getting outshot by somebody with a field grade Wingmaster!

How much you spent on the gun you're currently holding counts for a lot less than what you've spent on ammunition sent downrange.

It sure does, and the big mistake many people make is talking to someone selling something when they go to buy something, instead of talking to several different shooters and actually ASKING what a good starter gun would be for them!

Just got my SR-410 from TI, 410 revolver with 9.8 inch barrel, 4.5 pounds. LOP is 12.75 inches, the same as a SKS. For no practical reason other than it kinda looks cool. Interestingly it comes with various chokes which honestly I don't think will make much of any difference but whatever :)

Wish they made that in 12

Finally got to try out the ss211

Tried it from 10-30yrds, pattern was good with federal upland loads. Used both number 6s and number 4s. Pattern started to open up at 30yrds but between 15-25yrds it was perfectly good for a dead turkey. Where i plan to use it is a small field (less than an acre) and my decoys will be set up at 10-15yrds so if a turkey walks anywhere near them they will be toast.

Even upland loads kick pretty good, i didnt have time to try 3" goose loads or slugs this time around but soon enough!

Pic of one of the fireballs this thing produces, as well as the pattern at 15yrds. Yellow dot was my point of aim, the short stock and my hearing protection was preventing me from getting my usual cheek weld so i had to compensate how i was aiming so i have to lead ever so slightly to the left to get the best results. Also, bottom barrel shoots much lower and so i have to aim considerably higher with that barrel.

Lots of fun!!

I was shooting sporting a month or so ago and 3 young men were shooting a short single “ tactical “ style 12 ga. They were having problems. We gave some pointers and let them use our guns. (O/u & auto loader). They were very happy with new results. I shoot a couple shells and could not believe the recoil. They saw that after saving a few bucks they would be having more success and more fun. I also suggested a lesson with one of the local pros. Money well spent.
