Ultra short barrels, do they have a use ?

At the extreme risk of being called a Fudd, gun-snob, arsehole, old-codger, irrelevant sell out….anyone considering bringing a super short shotgun to an ORGANIZED club to shoot skeet or trap with people you don’t know, please be mindful that your gun is very loud and is obnoxious to people who don’t appreciate it. Extremely short guns also tend to be less controlled with the short muzzle kinda whipping around more than a long barrelled gun. Be careful to mind where it is pointed and keep it obviously open and unloaded for your shooting mates.
When I was a teen, I had a friend who got a pistol gripped Winchester defender. We all thought it was super-cool and each went out to shoot a box of Canadian Tire shells at a cardboard box at 10 paces. First and last time I bothered with it. He sold it fairly quickly.

Woww .... Brybenn ... feel like sharing .... what is the overall length of that setup?
My Tac-14 with a 14" barrel and aftermarket wood birdshead grip just barely makes it to 26" overall length .... I had to install a GGG sling adapter and to get to the 26 inches (660 mm) ...
The only tangible advantages are shorter overall length and lighter weight. These are important to some people, and not at all important to others. For most people it's a compromise, and getting that short isn't worth the cost of the much greater muzzle blast, shorter sighting plane, and lower muzzle velocity.
I use a 8.7" DA grizzly for wildlife defense. Threw a side saddle on it and have a bear banger, a couple rubber slugs and a couple of real slugs ready to go if needed.
Handy to have around the campsite as bears do happen, and most of the time they just need to be scared off instead of killed.
I would love to use it for partridge hunting when I'm bombing around on the quad, but its way too loud and the lack of choke prevents me from considering it seriously. Hoping to pick up a barely legal length bolt 22 someday to run subsonics out of for a quiet, compact chicken sniper.

26.5" oal. The only issue is the birds head grip has a swell at the base which doesn't quite fit my hand and causes it to slip as it's smooth wood. I'll get around to sanding it flat on each side eventually.

And I thought I was missing out on a smaller package .... ok.
My wood birds head grip was very slippery as well .... my middle finger was always slammed into the trigger guard under recoil .... and that did hurt ..... ouchhhh ...
I slipped a piece of rubber bicycle tubing over the grip and that solved the problem for me ..... I can now shoot my Tac-14 all day long ....
This guy has a youtube channel with a lot of interesting tips on how to shoot a birds head. He uses a strap to prevent slippage.
Yups .... that works as well ... I use a 3 finger loop with the sling that is mounted to my Tac-14 ....
It doesn't slip out of my hand my hand just slips forward under recoil. The swell at the base is just slightly to large for how I grasp it. I guess I just have small hands.
