Hello everybody!

I am currently in the market for a case cleaner. I am leaning towards an ultrasonic. Can anyone share their experiences and pros/cons? Money is a non-issue. Thanks for your input

i have an ultrasonic lyman and a tumbler. i don't care if the brass is super shiney so i use my ultrasonic the most. cleans te pockets and inside to like new. if there too dull or stained i tumble the a quick trip though the ultra sonic.

I currently clean with ultra sonic. Yes gets it real clean I find adding lagostina stainless cleaner to the water helps shine the brass. Not as much as tumblers though.

I plan on switching to stainless steel tumbling. If price isn't an issue get that instead

I just spend the whole day playing with brass. Have a Hornady 2L ultra sonic, and a lymann tumbler. The US does a great job cleaning but leaves tarnish marks, etc. I had tried tumbling alone and the results were slightly better, so what I found worked best today, US for 30 minute, shake and dry then into oven @ 210 for 20 min, then into tumbler with green corn media and some Mothers chrome polish, for about 4 hrs. Result was clean on inside and new looking outside. Did not have the SS media glean to it, but fulfilled my shiny desire for the day. I'm sure there are better / faster ways, but its what I came with.

After much nashing of teeth I went with a small SS tumbler.. I'm delighted

I use the Hornady Magnum cleaner (heater included) with there Hornady Case Cleaner solution, it comes out clean and pretty shiny. Enough for me.
I run it through once on a 20 minute cycle with 1 to 20 solution versus water. I use regular water but results are better with distilled.

I don't find the ultrasonic (Lyman)with RCBS cleaner, does very much unless the tumbler is done first, even then I had wipe as they come out because I cant stand dull brass either. Mine spends more time cleaning jewelry then brass though....at least until recently it did.

Have 2 of the small EZ sonics from Frankfort Arsenal, been testing their 40:1 solution against a 50/50 vinegar and water with a bit of liquid soap.
I can't really see any difference between the 2 solutions, brass comes out fairly descent but dull. End up tumbling it a while, to get it nice and shinny.
Pain in the butt, but I like clean and shinny.

I did my first batch last night, 1 drop of dish soap, 5ml of vinegar and then water. I guess I should have rethunk that a little bit huh? Lol

On the plus, the cleaner does work good....the recipe wasnt right though....

I use dish soap and Lemi shine.

From discussions on other forums vinegar can affect the brass while citric acid (primary component of lemi shine) improves the brass. I can't remember the details but its related to surface chemistry.

I have a Lyman ultrasonic cleaner and I hate the thing. I use the Lyman cleaning product with it and find it doesn't work at all. After 5-6 cycles I'm still cleaning primer pockets. Maybe I just got a lemon but I think it will make a better 1000 yard target than cleaning tool.

I was in the exact same situation. Then I got into SS and am very happy with the results.

Get a tumblers tumbler from Cabelas,
And you will be [VERY SATISFIED].
Get the stainless steel pins from Rooky.
Good guy to deal with.
Your brass will look like gold.

I clean my brass in my ultrasonic cleaner because it gets it much cleaner than the vibratory tumbler, but it does not get it shiny. In order to get it nice and shiny I take it out of the ultrasonic cleaner and toss it into the tumbler. The brass does not need to be dry. I run it for an hour and it comes out dry and shiny like new. (some stains can not be removed, as usual)

I've used my ultrasonic(branson) a bit and it does a fine job, just takes a bit of time and mine is only a 3Ltr model, now I mainly use the stainless pins since it allows me to do a few hundred at once(10lbs of pins).

I have purchased twice from ROOKY with great results, if you search his username he is the one selling all the stainless pins on this website. Stay away from ultrasonic, it is the most overrated form of cleaning if you compare to stainless tumbling, and eventually you will pay for the difference in fancy cleaners or vinegar. I would either stay with traditional tumbling or cross over to the BRITE side with stainless pins.

I won't ever be selling my stainless tumbler!
