Ultrasonic cleaning solution

Hiya;

Bought a lyman ultrasonic cleaner, but the local store didn't have any of the cleaning solution for the unit and said they porbably won't get some in for a while.

Anyone know if one of the site sponsors might carry the ultrasonic solution for brass cleaning? Hornady, Lyman don't matter, not picky.

I tried some of the online homebrew remedies, but the brass tarnished and some corroded overnight.

GOJO hand cleaner does work nicely to polish the cases.

Sorted myself out. Stuck with a homebrew reciepy from another website. Cleaned the cases nicely inside and out and removed the tarnish. A quick wipe with some GOJO shined the cases up after and removed hard water staining from drying.

Reciepy:
50% water
50% vinegar
1 tsp dish soap

Two cycles at 480 seconds (Lyman unit max time setting).

Drop cases into Baking soda mixed with water to neutralize the vinegar acid.

Rinse cases in cool water.

Dry cases in oven set at 170degrees to completely dry. 10-15min.

I did about 20-30 cases each time.

I would get about 6-8 cycles with the water/vinegar solution before the mixture started losing effectiveness. I used a modified reciepy from the 6mmbr website and oven dried according to the RCBS instructions for a sidewinder wet media tumbler, just used less temperature than what they had used in thier instructions (RCBS stated 200F).

I can't take credit as i got the info from the 6mmbr website, just had to modify it a bit. I'm pretty happy with the results as the cases are clean inside and out. The cases aren't overly shiney, but they sure are clean.

I did order some Hornady Brass cleaner solution from Frontier Firearms as they did have it in stock and i want to try it out to see if there is any noticeable difference. I also ordered the Gun cleaner solution, i'll to wait till the end of the month to try that out though.

I've read that some guys tumble the brass afterwards to get a nice shine on the cases. Not really needed, but i do like shiney cases, so i may try that as well.
 
Bartons in Grande prairie has the hornady solution and WSS has the Lyman.

Shiny brass is allmost a must in some pistols, they won't reliably chamber unless you get all the dark tarnish off... And the ultrasonic does that plus the inside and primer pockets... No dust, no noise, I like it.
 
Cool, i was looking for the "lemi shine", just couldn't find it anywhere. Guess i didn't check CT hard enough. I'll give it a whirl when i get some more casings to clean up.
