Umingmak(muskox) hunt coming up ...

I had musk-ox in December 2000, while up in Inuvik, NWT.

Man it WAS great! Like previously stated, almost totally fat free.
Much like a cow though or any other ungulate, some cuts were sssooo tender...others not quite as good. Thankfully the cooks thought to order as well, Arctic Char, and Caribou too!

In 2004, while there again, only scored some caribou, wrong time of year.
It was brought in via plane from Cambridge Bay (commercial herd of reindeer?)...ALL very tasty!

Steer your snowmachine clear of the Pingos! And Good Luck to you Otokiak!

Good Luck Otokiak!!! Bring home some good meat and please post pictures - lots of them! What are your plans for the hide and horns?

I was lucky enough to harvest my second mx last month (a fat 1 1/2-yr old cow). The first was a lean adult cow. Both were very tasty as steak, roasts or burgers, but the second was really tender (young) and more flavourful because of the fat.

Tuesday March 25, 2008 I shot my 1st Umingmak ... he was a young bull with sweet horns ... and man did he taste good fried up with onions ... waiting on pics from a friend who had the camera ... shall post soon. 4 of us went and 4 of us came home with a Umingmak ... awesome!

Cool. What's an onion worth in Rankin Inlet?

Just curious. Did you eat the Liver or a particular cut?
