Unblocking a barrel

Well - it's out!!

Thanks for all the thoughts and advise - butI went a completely different way ~ knowing that there was only wood in there, I borrowed a trick from my ram rod hole drilling tool bag.....

I made a plug cutter!

basically just took small cores out of it till I was through:

no damage to the bore at all :) actually had a thin wall of wood still left in the bore [which I popped out with ... yes,... another wooded dowel :) ]

had to keep sharpening the 'bit' and sometimes cut it off completely but it did work.
 
Saw some pictures on another Forum, of a rig that used a grease gun to drive out blockages. The fella used his lathe tail stock to push the rig on to the muzzle of the barrel and then could apply pressure via the grease nipple mounted upon the unit. LOTS of pressure capability, no risk of any projectiles as the grease does not compress then release.

I had used the same method to clear a multi-charged ML rifle that had been made 'safe', by soaking the charges in oil. It was a huge fairly solid lump, by the time I got it.
