Choosing a setup to use for CQB can be hard. There are so many companies and different products, the choices are mind boggling. Whether you want to go with a simple harness, a vest with internal pouches, or a vest with just molle it's a hard decision, and how do you know its the right one? I'm putting this rig setup and review together for people who are new to CQB and don't know what to buy. The setup is really quite simple, a belt, one pistol mag pouch (included with belt), and a dump pouch (holds 8 AR mags/only need 5). Here are some pictures :D

Both items are made by Condor Tactical and can be found on their website. The belt runs around $20 and the dump pouch $15. Yes this doesn't look like anything special, but the setup is supplemental. You could go out and purchase a cheap vest for under $100, but will it be able to fill all the needs you have now and in the future? At least with this setup, you can incorporate it into another rig you buy later on (if you even want to switch ;)) Well you might be thinking "HMMM it looks good, but does it work?" well I say.....you tell me :D (all firearms were safety checked before drills were ran)

I believe the mag locations are ideal, and with a little practice...your reloads can become pretty slick . The one rifle mag sharing the side of pistol pouch is meant for the transition stages and the advance and fire, where a quicker reload is sometimes needed. Remember you can set this up any way you want, but once you try a CQB match you will understand my placements. Though this may not be the best setup out there, it does the job (and pretty well) until you can make up your mind. I hope this has helped, and if anyone has any questions feel free to ask :D

lol....reloading with empty pistol mags doesn't really work if you're gonna use the slingshot method.

Fast enough rifle reloads though....someone has been practicing!

Oh i know...i didn't want to run a snap cap so the slide closes, just in case anyone got the wrong idea :p

Very similar to what I ran in a match last year. The key really is to have a decent pistol holster that retains well and releases fast. Dropping a pistol was not cool. I ended up with one like yours later.

Good idea about showing newbies low cost ways to get started. Having to spend big $$$ on gear just to try something keeps many from bothering.

lol i think thats why he went to the serpa too :p i seem to recall a nice shoe print on a colt 1911 two summers ago

Just a word to the newbs... avoid those generic nylon holsters that are/were meant for airsoft pistols. Pistols seem to fall out of them  during our "Advance and Fire" Stages. Spend the money on a good Serpa or Safariland or Kydex holster that specifically built for YOUR model/brand/version.

Good job on the reloads and practicing. Just don't take out the home furnishings like Wayne Gretzky and his Wii hockey stick....

Just had one of your diet coke moments at the RSO course.

HAHA.

Definitely support all decisions for SERPA holsters.

You can help shooters out by showing them an efficient and cheap gear setup but how about that dexterity? Can't buy that dexterity and sometimes practice won't give it to you either, it's genetics.

Hey, my pistol dropped totally due to operator error. I just got lazy attaching all the straps and snaps that let that particular holster hold my pistol as it was meant to (that is, in a somewhat loose and sloppy manner).

I am sure that with the proper application of duct tape over the back strap it would have been fine.

But yeah, the Serpa rocks, especially compared to the airsoft crap.
