Recently acquired an old "RANGER" .22 semi...assume this one was made by Savage, as Savage clips fit it. The rifle has a grooved receiver, so I thought I would mount a scope on it, but discovered that rings sized for 3/8" grooved receivers are too big. Are there rings available that will fit it, and if so, where might I find some?

I think the Ranger was made by Cooey for a contract, not unlike Montgomery Wards and Eaton's had marketed in years past.
Any model number on it? The name Ranger has been used by several companies over the years. There's 13 of 'em on Gunpart's Cross Reference page. One Savage shotgun and 4 Stevens models(of course not all are semi-autos) were made for Sears and J.C. Higgins, Stateside.
You'd likely be best to put a .22 scope on it with an integral base. No point spending a lot of money for rings and a scope for an inexpensive rifle. Have a look at the Bushnell .22 scope.

Thanks for the replies guys. This old "Ranger" has no model # marked on it anywhere. I have an older 2-5x20 Japanese built Tasco occupying space here, and thought I might as well join the two. I'm OK with paying for a set of rings, but it's definitely not worth the cost or trouble of a D&T and bases. Maybe I'll see if someone in town has a set of Milletts and give them a try.
