I was hoping that this Item on E-bay would continue to fly under the radar and into my mailbox. But alas it has been discovered, and with entertaining results. Price has climbed $2500 in one day. There are still 5 days left!

The seller mistakenly identified and listed this Ultra-rare Canadian Military contract Unertl 10x "Sniper" scope as a Kahles. Item# 170582659555

Unertl 10x USMC "Sniper" scopes have sold for over $10,000 This could get good!!!

Pretty expensive paperweight - seeing as it's missing the focus ring assembly.

Have a look at my response about warning potential buyer's about an uphill battle with a defective scope that will not focus!

IMO, the scope has issues. No focusing ring; lense at eyepiece end looks scratched and has a defect like "bubble" off towards the perimeter and the recticle looks fuzzy. The bidding has pulled back to US$1500 so some folks must be getting suspicious about this item. The Seller has decribed this as "excellent" and also states that this is not their "speciality".....very contradictory. It would be wise for the Seller to have the scope checked out and correctly listed. Sure would eliminate a lot of headaches down the road.

As it stands....a very expensive repair....last one of these sold on eBay approximately 4 -6 weeks ago or at least had one bid at $3000.00.

I would be very leary about forking out that amt of dough but there is a sucker born everyday unfortunately.

US optics could replace the missing focus ring and damaged lense. It would have to be exported and returned under permit otherwise it will confiscated by either US or Canada Customs. Don't know if this is possible with the new US/Canada Government Restrictions under ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations). It's a very costly proposition. You can buy a new MST-100 which is the upgrade of the old Unertl scope for $2700.

These Unertl telescopes, if correct, complete and serial numbered in the CF range, are some of the most sought after Unertls by collectors stateside which is why the prices can be so astronomical. Multiple thousands have been offered on a regular basis for authentic ones since so few are actually out there.

The numbers quoted are far more than the scope itself is worth - it indeed has had some issues - but then who would have said a Cuda would break a $1million at auction either. Aside from the serial number range, there are also a couple of other Canadian things that were speced out on those that would make it quite difficult to restore and if there is significant missing or damaged parts you would be into a remanufacture of parts to be accurate and then you still wouldn't have a "true" unit but a "more or less" reproduction/remanufacture. I recall when the original C3s went off for rebuild in the UK and the scopes were ordered from Unertl the scope delivery was so far behind - and old John could be cantankerous cause he didn't much care about Canadians when ANY US outfit called up for scopes - that the P/H rebuilt guns were actually out of warranty before they fired a shot since they had no optical sights for them.

If anyone is seriously interested in the specifics of a real CF C3A1 Unertl contact me offline and I will help but as has been accurately pointed out this is a VERY specialized area and bidding a load of dough on something you have never held in your hand is a big of a leap of faith.

What other boards is this topic subject of discussion?

Anybody from Canada bidding on this?

Lots of good questions and healthy discussion.

C3 had a Kahles Helios ZF69 6x42 mounted on it. The seller is correct.
This scope does not have the focus ring like the Unertl 10x
