Unfinished boyds gunstock. Updated

So I have been working on the stock daily and i'm at 4 coats of tung oil.

For the moment it is gonna stay like this, im pleased with it.

Wood finishing noob here, maybe somebody can point me in the right direction.

I am looking for a very low gloss/no gloss finish for my stock.

Simon , that is a very nice stock !!!
 
WOWZERS! Im not sure if anyone else has had this problem with the boyds, but the stock liner holes are drille too far back, in turn forcing me to have to remove ALOT of material where the trigger group goes in order to fit everything else within the right perameters. Super frustrating that its only supposed to require "minor" fitting. Quite the contrary, I feel like maybe its my fault cause its my first time ever doing any sort of wood work, filing, etc, but its very obvious the whole stock liner is like and 1/8 of an inch back from where the wood has been grooved to accomadate it. GRRRRRR, will try and post pics soon if i can
 
trololo so much wood in this thread, but I can't stop looking, it's the only thing keeping me away and I can't sleep or the clown will eat me

I have personally witnessed the miracles of a Garand tung oil union and I must say it was impressive.

No I definitely had an issue getting my liner and screws properly lined up, seated and assembled in my unfinished Boyds.

I think I even invented some curse words while going through the process.

I know I had to shave some wood out where the flat ends of the liner press up against the inside of the stock next to the trigger housing area so I could pull the whole thing back to line the holes up with stock holes.

Then while applying pressure and lining up the very tight spaces with one sore hand, I had to screw in the screw with a macguivered "stock screw pronged screwdriver" I made with two finishing nails, a vice grip and some masking tape!

I should have been playing "The Best Around" from Karate Kid during the ordeal, it would have made for an epic montage! :D

End result though; out-####ing-standing! :rockOn:
