Unfired! Really

There are a lot of gun owners who get their pleasure from owning or assembling something. Others from shooting. I’ve spent enough on ammunition this year to buy several rifles. I’m a use it or lose it guy because shooting improves me, but owning not so much.

I have 6 brand new never fired firearms at the moment. A CZ452 and a CZ 453 for the grand kids when they are old enough, A black powder .44 pistol, an AR15, and a SAA mini .22 I never got around to taking out yet, and a Tokarev TT3 I just bought. Some of these I have had for 5+ years. So I would say that for someone to have never fired guns ,isn't really that unusual.

I guess it depends where you're at in life...
In you 20s, just starting out and having few guns.
- Having a gun you don't use in the safe is very unlikely.
- If someone asked ou how many firearms you own, you can pretty much give them a straight answer, pretty much right away.

Once you're into your 40s/50s/60s...
- It is well within the realm of reality.
- If someone asked ou how many firearms you own... You'll don't know the exact number. You'll ask to be more specific, like how many 12g SxS / how many 44mag revolvers
Sometime you buy stuff just "because" the deal was good/you wanted before/to help a friend in precarious financial situation.
Sometime life gets in the way. You bought it to play a specific game... but never get around to.

When someone sells something as "unfired", it's good to ask if it is unfired (as in, a new firearm) or unfired "by the seller"

Got one Savage model 12 6.5-284 new ‘unfired ‘in my safe, along with two handguns, a .38 super and a .44 mag.
Just lack of time. All purchased new from dealer.

The 6.5 needed a clean before putting it in the safe. Same with the .38 super and .44 mag.

New gun are fired.
Technically, there is no unfired gun on the market..factory shoot them with proof load and for function.

I have 1 unfired rifle in the safe that's been there for a year now. One that's been fired once in over 5 years of ownership and another fired only once in almost two years.

Reading through the thread it doesn't seem to be that uncommon to have safe queens that don't see a range much. But I also don't get out to the range at all since this pandemic started, work, family and life in general has got in the way and my priorities shifted a bit.

I like to at least test fire and check all mags for proper operation. Clean lubricate and all that good stuff. I will admit there may have been a few over the years that I did not get to the range with for whatever reason. More recent banned ones might be the most unfired (for now).

i have 3 types of guns in my safe

Hunting guns - used for hunting and tested at the range 1x a year
Range guns - only used at the range but always come with me whenever I go
Just because guns - i bought it "just because" I don't use it for hunting and rarely take it to the range

Some of my Just Because guns sit a long time before they ever get used

I got a SVT40 I bought three years ago it has never left the safe. I got a 9MM pistol I bough 6 months ago the same never fired. I got a 81 LMG first batch never has left the house. Probably others as well . Just too many guns and not enough range time.

For a while I thought like the OP - I didn't believe any ad that said unfired, and "only 20 rounds down the pipe" was equally spurious sounding.

Then I bought a rifle, put 20 rounds through it, and then sold it because I decided to switch to shooting left handed. And now I have a rifle bought last May that I still haven't fired, life and Covid got in the way and I've only shot guns in hunting related circumstances since April of last year.

So if I can do it with my limited funds, I can totally see how others, many of whom have far more disposable income than I do, could also do this.

That said, I still take the claim with a grain of salt. If the only supporting evidence is because you said so, I'm buying based on the condition I can see in pictures not the claim its new/unfired.
