Unfired Win 94 30-30... shoot or storage?

Guns were built to enjoy not to be stuffed into a safe where noone can appreciate thier function. Most of my winchester lever guns were manufactured pre 1910 and each one in rotation are taken to the range and shot.
If you want to use, handle and fire your collectible guns, that's quite within the rights of ownership, but conversely if one is a collector and prefers to keep his unfired guns unfired and in his collection, that too is quite within his rights of ownership. I know a fellow that has almost 100 94s, 92s, and 86s etc hanging on the wall that have never been fired while in his possesion. Is his method of gun ownership less valid than yours? I say not. He is a "owner/collector" of guns while we are "owner/shooters" of the same.

Also ....... an original, unfired 94 rifle would be a nice addition to a collection of lever guns. Shooting it would just turn it into a common "shooter" and there's only about 4 million or so of those "shooter" 94s floating around out there, not counting Marlins.

Just goes to show there are collectors and then there are shooters. Sell the darn thing to a collector and make some handsome profit and buy another and a few more with the profits! And now you have a few more to enjoy!

I'm not a collector. I love to shoot and smell the smoke of gunpowder!;)

Medic.....As stated above, it is up to everyone to choose what they do with thier guns, I choose to enjoy my guns and let others enjoy seeing and handling them too. Hanging on a wall or standing in a safe seems cruel and unusual punishment for such delightful guns.Money is not everything ...though to some of the collectors (especially Stateside)...it is .You should read some of the forums they have. Hundreds of guns in collections and cannot be enjoyed by anyone but themselves. I see no real purpose in that. This is my personal opinion. Meet me at my range I go to and you can shoot one of mine anytime. They are not as expensive (unfired condition) but are none the less as precious to me as if they were..

....i just realized that you do not have the original box or papers for the gun. that is already making it a Shooter .. Serious collectors do not recognize arms that are not in original wrappings as "unfired" I have a Lone Star Commemorative and it is "unfired"....BUT not recognized as such. I do not have the original box and papers for it.

the difference in "worth" between an unfired shooter and a used shooter in nice shape would negate the cost of buying a second gun. again my opinion.....

I'd never buy a gun I don't eventually intend to shoot ... Some of my guns have been safe queens for quite some time, but they will all be fired eventually.

It's not a purpose built, limitied run commerative. It's one of a zillion mod 94's produced an unremarkable calibre. Shoot it, don't abuse it.

Serious '94 collectors have many little extras they check for to determine value. Stuff like the shape of the barrel band etc. Before shooting it may be a wise idea to have someone knowledgeable in their form of voodoo examine the gun. Be a shame to knock off considerable value when replacement with a shooter is so easy.
