Unissued Russian SKS

Yes, they're rare. Sometimes you see refurbed ones with a blade, sometimes with a spike, with ###'d out stock and chrome lined barrels. What Westrifle just had (they had six, I got one and a few other members here did, too) were the originals. Spike bayo, non-refurbed...with the excpetion of one, I believe. I think the one Joce got was a refurb

Well, I got mine yesterday and I do believe it is from 55, 56 or whatever...Regardless, it is sweet, very sweet so thank you all at Westrifle...I have a Chinese from Marstar however this Westrifle Russian is so well made in comparison...I mean it has the usual tool marks inspection marks and everything else but the colors are beautiful, dark and rich in a way however one could see that some of the paint was done quickly as one would expect from mass production in a country like the USSR...Every piece however is tight...and the cosmoline was not so waxy it was greasy and easy to remove...and that was done...Now all I have to do is take it out and check out its performance...Friday..

Just don’t get why the Russian 49 is so rare with a spike or blade. I have goggled the hell out of it but still can’t see why that yr is such a hot item to find….. Didn’t mean to hijack thread sorry.

Wow. Ok 1949 SKS with spike bayo is very rare because only 60 000 was made in 1949. There was 200 000 000 if I am correct made all together. How many 1949 survived you can only guess. Also we are not lucky in getting those. We pay extra to origins for every piece that is found. By doing so we stimulate their hunger for money and your need for those. This is why I can bring those. I reject many 1949 because those are very beaten up. For the 1949 with blade bayo is what happens to those that I reject it is fixed and remade in blade version.
Out of 5000 sks that I see one would be 1949. So you decide if those are rare

The history of the SKS began in Russia when it was adopted in 1945.
SKS45 was designed by Sergei Gavrilovich Simonov. SKS is an acronym for Samozaryadniy Karabin Sistemi Simonova (Simonov’s self-loading carbine system). However, the war ended shortly after and the production took a back seat to reconstruction of the nation. Production was delayed until 1949 but it was quickly phased out as a frontline weapon in 1951. It was replaced by the AK47. SKS45 production ended in early 1956. It had a rather short production life (only 7 years) in Russia but by no means it's the end of the SKS.

No such thing as an un issued SKS!

I no longer have this opinion! My buddies Izzy ( Izhevsk ) SKS arrived today and I just got back from taking a look! It's a virgin! You can tell its never been used from just looking. It is like it just rolled off the assembly line at the Izhevsk plant. I have one of these gorgeous Izhevsk on the way. I have one question for Westrifle. What chemical was wipped over the stock so you could take a picture of the markings? It's removed some of the stains color!

Pete

this is along the same lines as yukonpetes last post. I have an izzy too and serial # has clearly been sanded off and restamped. I saw in the picts before purchase and isnt an issue. Its just kinda confusing to me. The rifle is gorgeous and Ive been over every inch of it and cant see any reason to think its been refurbed, but yet the stock has clearly been forced. Im guessing an unissued izzy that had handling damage and had to have the stock replaced? I really dont care as its REALLY nice and also bought a tula that is no doubt new and unissued. Im just curious to hear some explanations. Any chance on anymore 49s Sergey? Im soooo pissed I missed out.

I don't think wood polish would take off any stains on your rifle. Are you sure it is not time that took it off or reaction with cosmo

It has definitely been wiped over with lacquer thinner or acetone just where the Serial number is on the stock as the finish is much lighter and looks whipped off. I'm a cabinet maker and stain doors and panels all the time so I know what I am talking about. But its still a gorgeous Izhevsk and I think Westrifle for getting them!!!!

ha! Im a cabinetmaker too! thats hilarious. we gotta be talkin bout diff things on the stock. mine even has an indentation in the profile from wood removal and stamp is faint. I wondered about a goof when they first stamped and then sanded it off.

I got a nice Izzy from Al a few days ago. Let me tell you, he was very accommodating, despite my inane questions, and requests.
I am what you would call, 'one of those' customers.
Despite it being a one rifle purchase, Al went beyond the call of duty with his time, and patience.
Great customer service, and I got one hell of a nice SKS.
I actually never thought I would get one. I thought they were crude, and beneath my collection.
The Izhevsk versions are very nice, to my surprise.
Thanks again Al. I will definitely do business with you again soon!
