Unit marking discs for No.1 Mk.3 rifles.....

Left you same message on MKL...

Here's one Canadian source located just north west of Toronto in Milton. Good to deal with. For some reason, "attachment" pics don't show as thumbnails on CGN, so click the link at the bottom to view their pic...

I know I have seen reproductions for sale but can't remember where. I have also see original unit marked ones for sale somewhere. Can anyone assist?

I just bought and received a brand new blank repro with screw from CGNTZ member Pblatzz. Dropped right in on my 42 Long Branch. It's not authentic but it sure looks better than the hole that was there before.

hole looks a little big for the disk

Perhaps it is the right size for a quarter. :D

The hole is just slightly bigger than the disk, it would take a perfectionist with eagle eyes (woodchopper?? ) to spot that...;)
If someone has a genuine disk could you please measure the OD with a vernier and I'll compare with my new one to make sure it's the correct size?

The hole was there for the screw so it must have had a disk before. It screwed right in with little resistance. There was no quarter in it when I bought it and it is in cosmolene so I doubt it's been bubba'd. It was a great find, a very unmolested 42. Bore is a very mint 2 groove.

BTW, it has the low cut on the right side of the forend at the bolt. Was it just 41 LB's that had that low cut or did that go into 42? The rifle is all matching except the forend serial number is 10L, the rifle is 15L.

Also, the safety was the second LB variant with the little notch, anyone know what year or at what point in 42 or 43 they switched from the first round variant?

I removed the disk and compared it to the two original disks I have in two other rifles- it's precisely sized correctly. Thus yes the hole is a bit big...not sure why and I hope the quarter thing is wrong...:( I doubt Bubba customized a full wood military rifle in the cosmo...

My question is how you remove the wooden plug that you find in some rifles. It looks like it's held in by two dowels.

Do you mean a plug someone used to fill in the disk hole?

If so and it's done well and looks good, maybe leave it there?

the wood plugs replaced the brass disk.

It was decided that letting the enemy know which unit they were fighting by captures rifles was not such a good ideal so the disk were removed and unit armourers and pluged with a wood plug

so really they are proper.

but I would use a sharp 1/4" wood chisel and carefully remove it.

Either way sounds good...

Now I just need to find an aiming arm for the volley sight base. Do those screw right in?
