I preheated mine with a propane torch, then mig welded with ER308L 0.035 wire. No warpage and no excessive heat into the base metal. The mig allows for fast deposition of metal, and its critical the settings and preheat are correct in order that it can be done very fast. I've also done it with tig, but prefer the mig because I can get the same results faster.

you could've atleast post good pictures, this just doesn't do justice to the quality of the weld. I still speak to the guy, even though he did not follow my instructions. I insisted on the 3 welds. He felt a continuous top one was better.
