Unknown marking on Enfield

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe per Peter Laidler that it means it's kaput...unserviceable...beyond economic repair.
"ZF" means "Beyond local repair except at factory". Either there is a defect with the gun or the butt stock was salvaged and installed on you rifle. I had a #4mk1 with that on the butt also, nothing wrong with the rifle that I could find. Have good look, ie a complete dissassembly. RF
This thread below started out as a simple question for Peter Laidler about the definition of the "ZF" marking that appears on Enfield rifles. It turned into a pretty interesting and wide ranging multi-page discussion about this marking, with Peter and other Enfield experts elaborating and explaining in detail the variations and meaning of these markings, plus additional feedback about Canadian Long Branch rifles.

"...does this mean its good to go?..." Depends on when the FTR was done. Before or after the ZF. Chances are the butt stock was a salvaged stock. Mr. Laidler, on the 2nd page of the milsurps.com link(BadgerDog is right. Long, but informative discussion. Worth the read. Slow site though.), says any 'ZF' rifles were destroyed before being sent to the scrap metal dealers. Salvaged rifles wouldn't have the 'ZF'. I'd bet your rifle is just fine, but has a salvaged stock.
Have the rifle's headspace checked, in any case. Matching numbers doesn't guarantee that the headspace is ok.

ZF at anytime to me is considered as above already stated above by cantom

I would say that ZF marked rifles somehow got into the surplus market and have NOT been repaired.
I would say NO.
ZF would have been applied for some reason after the FTR.

Just noticed your "slow site" comment….
For some users, particularly dial-up, it can be a problem …
Not sure if you or others know that you can switch the interface to be essentially text driven, which makes it faster that any basic vBulletin site on the Internet.
