Unknown round identification

I have a shell that has a head stamp FN 56
It's smaller that 3006 case the bullet diameter 8.15mm
.321" case is 2.235"/56.8mm
Full metal jacket and crimped primer looks sealed with black lacquer.
Any body have an idea?

If not, the measurements are pretty much 8x57 Mauser.

It is defiantly not a 7mm cal

Belgian made 8x57 Mauser based on the measurements I would guess.

It's what Germany used in both world wars. Fairly common cartridge.

I know that guy, quite familiar with the 7x57 that is a excellent case but didn't know till now there was a 8x57

All the K98 Mausers that the Germans used were 8 x 57; they used them in machine guns as well. Pretty good deer round I understand; lots of moose shot with them as well.

During WWII, just about every major player had an equivalent bore, hard hitting rifle cartridge...there isn't a whole lot of difference between the 30'06, 303, 7.62x54, 7.7Jap, 8x57... probably forgot a few too.
