Unknown Shotgun / Help !!

I can tell you that the ELG in a crowned oval cartouche is the Liege proof mark -- I would say that your shotgun is definitely of Belgian origin, Fabrique Nationale (FN). Sorry, that's all I know.

It's almost impossible to find out exactly who made it. There were literally hundreds of small shops, not just FN, making shotguns just like yours in the Leige area prior to W. W. I. Some made junk, some did not. Most did not put a maker's mark on 'em.
Don't even think about shooting it. It's been rode hard and put away wet. It won't ever be worth a pile of money, but not a bad way of starting a collection.

It could be a Leige gun built on the La Facheaux action. Husky made these on that old design designated as the model 20. Very strong but short chambered (2.5") Tradex sells the much newer and better steel Huskys at a very moderate price. Cool old gun.

Thanks for all the info... I guess its a wall hanger. Prob the wrong the forum (to ask) but if I toss the firing pins, is that good enough to display since its a unrestricted ? I was hoping it was a antique but no luck there !!

That's a question you should ask the CFO. If you seriously want to deactivate it (which would be no loss, in this case), the CFO will tell you himself what he'll accept. I'm sure it will require more than simply removing the firing pins, as that's too easily reversed. I believe the dewat has to be verified by an independent verifier.

This may seem like a lot of trouble for nothing, but you could then have it de-registered. At that point, it's not only unrestricted, it's no longer a firearm. You can hang it over the fireplace in complete confidence.

identifying the proof marks do not tell you where a firearm was made, only that it went through a proof house in a certain country. A Savage rifle with a German proof mark (yes, they exist) was not made in Germany!
