Unlining a lined antique barrel

Hello , I have a J Henry 36 rifle which was lined from a 54 to allow it to be sold in the Indian rile trade market .1 and and eighth swamped barrel making it very heavy with a 42nd inch barrel. Were they soldered in or sweat welded. Would the only option to be is it to have it bored out? Smooth bore is ok. Not entirely antique as was converted to modern percussion and I reconvertedi t back to flint so no damage to the history. Cheers G

I think drilling it out is only option. They use piloted drill so drill doesn't wander. I think most liners are secured with epoxy glue.

I think how the liner is secured in the barrel depends on the beliefs of the person who did the job. They can be secured with solder, loktite, or epoxy. Unlikely to be heat shrunk in. What you need to consider is the diameter of the new liner and the outside dimensions of the barrel it is going into. In terms of removing the old liner, probably easiest to drill out with a piloted drill or with a series of drills that are pulled through the barrel. The first pass or two mean using a 5/16 rod to pull the drill and you need to clear the chips frequently to reduce the risk of the drill portion breaking off inside the barrel. (if it breaks, that is more of a nuisance than an unsolvable problem)
