Unloading a GG via loading chute

Anyone have trouble unloading their rounds from their Guide Gun or other Marling levers using the loading chute or whatever it is called? My big 45-70 rounds either get stuck or the sharp edges of the hole shave some brass off the casing. Once the edges shaved a big piece of my finger nail off.
On youtube I watched a Marlin lever gun shooter unload his rounds that way. He didn't seem to have a problem.
 
I unload mine via the gate all the time, unmodified gun as well. It can be a wee tough on the finger tips at first but practise makes perfect. I shoot 350 grain Hornady FNSP and do wind up with minor scratches on the cases, nothing too deep though.
Its worth it in the snow, mud or pouring rain.

I quite literally sliced and removed half of the nail on my index finger as I tried to LOAD the last round into the magazine on my GG. Was NOT a pleasant experience.

Still have not modded the loading gate though, but it's a project that is in the works for this winter. The front edge is VERY sharp.
 
I always unload through the gate, the trick is to keep the gate depressed with the bullet as you remove it so the next one slips out. Either that or go John Wayne on a tree stump :)

Asolutely none....the rounds will slide right out if the gate is pushed in hard enough, some are "stiffer" then others...try using the tip of the 1st one you pull out to push the gate down for the rest.

You can polish up the inside edges of the reciever around the loading gate so your brass doesn't get "scuffed" up if this bothers you ;)

That's the method I use to unload everything that uses an elevator to lift the round from a magazine tube to the chamber, and it works with both shotguns and rifles. Open the action to get the round on the elevator, then tip it out. Its quick and easy and safe. There's no chance of tearing off finger nails and no need to chamber a round.
 
Just to be clear... I mangled a finger LOADING the gun. The gate pinched my finger as it shut, so I yanked it out without thinking...

It was really not the guns fault... I stuck my finger where it shouldn't be (not the first time THAT has happened LOL).
