Unpleaseant Hunting Experience

This morning I was heading out deer hunting with a friend and on our way out to the deer hunting location we came across a herd of cow elk. My hunting partner had a cow elk tag and it was legal shooting time so we stopped to try for one. We were on a private forestry logging road on crown land which is legal to hunt from in Alberta. Just after my partner got out of the truck we saw another vehicle coming up the road, so he waited to get in to shooting position until after the vehicle had passed. The vehicle was a large vac truck, and as it passed the woman driving it laid on the horn to try to scare the elk away.

Someone having the gall to try to scare away the game frustrated us, but the elk were not too concerned, so after the vac truck was past my partner moved into position and lined up on the elk he wanted. Suddenly the vac truck backed down the road into sight again with the driver hanging out the window yelling at us that we couldn't shoot the elk because it was illegal. Needless to say, the elk ran off at the yelling, then the driver sped off.

This left a very sour taste in my mouth as there was nothing illegal occuring, and this anti/mis-informed woman had just ruined what was an otherwise enjoyable morning hunt.

Has anyone else had experiences similar to this? It really turned me off.

Check your regs and laws. I believe it is illegal to interfere with a hunter who is legally hunting. If you recall the company name on the truck or the plate have charges laid against the person and the company and raise as much of a stink about it as you can.

Get the meddling b*tch fired.

Unfortunately I didn't catch the company name, so not much that can be done for recourse. I just wanted to voice the issue and get it off my chest and see if others have had issues when legally hunting.

Drive back out there and tryand find her. I'm sure you will recognize the truck. If she was out there once she will out there again and you can get some info. Try and find were she was working and ask a few questions. Follow this up and nail her.

aye check your hunting regs, in ontario it is illegal to do that. they can have a hefty fine put on them for what she did. so you should have got their license plate # and call the cops.

While there are a lot of vac trucks in Alberta, there really aren't that many with female drivers. If you know the colour, it wouldn't be that hard to track them down I think... most vac trucks seem to work close to their home base (unless it is on a drilling rig I suppose)

interfering with a legal hunt will get you charged in Alberta.

File a complaint with F&W, they don't like this kind of thing very much. With two of you as witnesses you have a case.

Should't be too hard to find the exact truck and driver from company records.
Not a lot of different companies on any given service road.
Which WMU was this?

defiantly try to find out the company and file a complaint. One of the last thing most companies want is some idiot messing about in one of their vehicles with their company logo on it. When it comes down to saving a few employees or saving their company image, the employees better not hold their breath.
