Unrestricted coyote killer

Nice rigs & they take Ar mags, which is a turn on..but so far the far winner is the SWISSARMS PE-90Target..

He can't take the Sig/Swiss Arms down south...

SL8 -- $ and, ###, heavy crappy trigger
BlueStar - cant go south
AR180B - needs work to fit the bill
Mini-14 - the lack of accuracy issue is problematic...
M96 -a wee bit pricey
XCR - not avialable

Okay. Wow. Didn't get the email notifications. Glad I checked in. First, thanks for all the responses. Now....let me clarify. :)

I am not worried about extra costs for optics. My budget os around $2000 is for the rifle only. I have many optics sitting in boxes that I can use, and I get them at very good prices since I work in the shooting industry and have lots of contacts. Right now I have an eotech sitting unused, nightforce scopes, a new Kahles with Multi-Zero, a Nikon Tactical and a couple of protypes kicking around. :D

Second, if my son is going to use it, he will likley use a bi-pod, and be with me, so weight is less of a concern than overall length and length of pull.

Third. I can live with the possibility that if I get restricted firearm, that I can only use it on ranges here, but then I MUST be able to take it across the border to hunt with. I have had the opportunity to hunt with some TV and DVD personalities who use MP5's suppressed MP5's, AR-15's and various other mouse rifles with night vision, infrared lenses and lasers. I want to be able to do that and use that kind of equipment when I head down there, providing it's legal.

I don't want to have to add a ton on after market accessories to make it decent, other than rings, bases, scope and bi-pod.

I DO want something accurate, at least out say 300 yards for coyotes. For me that means a decent trigger or one that can be tuned.

If you all are correct about the PE90, then I wonder about the SL-8. I know that in many places the Benelli M4 with Skeleton stock is not legal without a special permit or something, just like the Mp5's. Then again, if it's way cool and *unrestricted* here, then it might be worth it to have just to hunt with here and then send the pictures to my friends in the states who will wonder how in the hell I got one. :)

Man oh man I wish I had your options. If I had my druthers, I'd pick a NIB M96 with the factory fixes. I like the PE90T but the M96 feels better in my hands.

With the M96 you do have options after buying the non-restricted. You can also find really good deals on them in the States and they are legal with both setups.

M96org.com had a complete setup for sale in Sept and still for sale as of last night. Both barrels and the factory fixes. $1500.00 US. Sweet deal. I'd take it myself but have a dedicated project on the go.

I hope to get started on my billet aluminum lower this month.

Get youself a PE90 if you want a "wave in the face of your US buddies" gun.

Okay Armedsask. That is very badass. Is that an Acog behind that eotech?? Why? My first reaction is nightvision, but that's an Acog, right??

How accurate would that rig be?

As for waving in the face of my US buddies, I think I'd rather be able to hunt with the rifle here, and still be able to take it down there if possible. Believe me when I say that usually they can trump me on cool toys, and I'm not sure they would care about the PE90 when they have the stuff they have. Which brings the question, why can't they have a PE90 down there and what makes ti so desirable??

Lastly, Turf, what is the M96?? I'm going to the site right now.

It's an ACOG clone behind the Eotech. I just picked it up a couple weeks ago, still haven't sighted it in. I wanted a cheap 3x scope for gophers, decided to try one of these knock off optics. Why is it behind the Eotech? Why not? That's where I store it, I always know where it is.

As my barrel is free floated it is theoetically more accurate. I noticed an improvment in accuracy when I first mounted the rail but I've never sat down at the benches punching paper with decent optics to see just how small I can get my groups.

I zero it at 100 with the Eotech and that's where it's been set for years.

Just for kicks, here it is with the NV (old version of my rifle).

Robinson Armaments M96 Expeditionary

Originally came to Canada with 2 different barrels. A restricited and a non-restricted. Had early problems but were eventually fixed at the manufaturers expense.

Production has stopped on the M96 for the developement of the XCR which originally was to be produced in 5.56 Nato and 7.62x51 (308). No luck so far except in the states. My name is down with Wolverine for the XCR.

Unless you order the carbine model from Wolverine either rifle seems to be non-restricted.

But I'll tell you this. You go to the gun boards from the states and you can pick up a sweet rifle for about $500 less:eek:

Can't go wrong with the AR-180B if you can find one. Mine makes a great varmet blaster. Plus the stares from other hunters for hunting with a "Machine gun" are priceless. I suggest you also get a pair of shades to compliment it:cool:

Btw, I think we all gotta put a sign on Armedsask saying "Please don't feed my ego" It's bad enough his AR-180B puts the rest of ours to shame, you guys don't need to remind him!

Hk SL8. Can you use it in the states for hunting too?

i am under the impression that you cannot buy the HK SL8 in the US. Is this correct? I am looking at this rifle and the AR-180b2 (??) and would like to take them hunting coyotes and Pdgogs in the states. If I cannot use the HK, the I will buy the AR. That being said, I am assuming I ca take the AR into the states....

HK stopped importing the SL8 and the USC a couple years ago, and is just going to start re-introducing them. Are you looking to buy one down south, or just take it down with you?

I want to take it down there for coyotes, and varmint hunting, etc.

Also, can either of these be used in 3 gun or the like? I already shoot IPSC and have thought about doing a few long gun shoots with da boyz. ;)

Be aware, our SL-8 is very different from the US SL-8.

They have a single-stack mag with feed from the Right hand side only I think, as opposed to the double-stack mag we have with alternating feed.

This was done so that the original G-36 parts were not compatible with the SL-8 sold in the US.

It was a way for the manufacturer to say that they had done everything in their power to prevent "non-sporting purposes" G-36 parts (like big magazines) from being used on their rifles which were imported.

You can buy one just fine in the US. You can also take your AR into the US, you just need an ATT to get you to and from the border point (in addition to your form 6NIA and hunting license).

But why? The SL8 is unrestricted....

I understand the form 6NIA but not the ATT.
