Untapped Hole in my reciever

Sorry guys, I was a little embarrassed by it after the long list of responses and just took it in to become a dewatt today, the barrel matches the rest of the gun so I don't want to change it. Really a dumb mistake I know, both myself and my friend said that after the fact, he apologized countless times too but it is my fault, I knew this was dangerous...famous last words and a large lesson learnt. Maybe I'll take a picture when it gets back, I have some here of what it looked like before too. I know what a chamber and barrel is, just don't know how they all come apart on the K98 as I've never removed one and am having problems explaining it all. I also would have known this would have happened but for one reason or another didn't even think about it, it was a stupid mistake and I should have my licence taken for it, its like another friend that reached into his snow blower to get a chain that was caught in it, sometimes a lack of judgement can be very dangerous... Call me all the names in the book but it's a lesson learned and I'm happy it did and I wasn't hurt because its another link on the chain of experience.

On the upside, you're smart enough to know your mistake and learn from it. More than can be said for a lot of people.

On the downside, we still don't know what those holes were about. I'm pretty curious myself, so maybe the following will help.

Can you describe where on the gun they were?

Where the holes close together, spaced length or widthwise on the gun, opposing sides of the gun, on top, on the side, etc etc etc???

Were they:

A) on the side of the reciever ring, going through into the chamber like so:

(it's the hole drilled on the reciever ring, and acts as a gas vent so if the case fails, it vents gas away from the shooter)

B) on the top of the reciever ring - like here on the extreme left, just under the white writing? This is a drilled and tapped reciever for a scope.

(ignore the catastrophic failure of the bolt for now;) )

C) like this - side by side on top of the reciever? Once again, a drilled and tapped reciever for scope.

If you were to look at C the holes were about that size one on top of the other at the star, now it is one hole which will be sealed.

Didn't know the K98 barrel was threaded, the only other rifles I took apart needed a press for the barrel to come out and they were semi-auto.

Yeah. And if you weld the rest of the parts together as per the CFC " guidelines" , you completely destroy the REST of the useful parts that could have been used to build another rifle out of the remains.

Mauser actions can be got, and barrels are the least of the worries.

But welding it all into a lump just destroyed it.

its ok. everyone makes mistakes, but you were the brave one to publicly aknowledge your screw-up. I'm sure you have learned your lesson! Good on you for posting! Don't let this one mixup discourage you!

Hmmm, well that's pretty darn weird.

In the future I'd recommend stripping it down for parts, as deacting that makes it pretty worthless IMHO, but hey, your gun.

Sort of like a Grade 12 Diploma, spelling and punctuation?:p

spelling is a matter of taste. and i have none. im sure you understood what i typed. really grade 12 punctuation is un nessisary.

and if spelling is the best you can do for an insult. dont quit your day job :)

depends on where your useing it. on a forum i could care less if people spell correctly or use proper grammar. basic punctuation is all that is nessisary to make a post easy to read and not a jumble of words.

now if you are talking about a letter to a newspaper or to a MP, then yes spelling and proper punctuation are a nessesity, but here with most of you. i could care less.

It was never meant to be an insult, I found it humorous.
I appreciate the concern about my employable qualities.:D
