Unused Guns, What can happen?

Well - The executor has no power when the grandpa is alive!

IIRC Unless given to the executor due to special circumstances such as medical issues etc.
Something to look into anyway.

I did something similar with my first Father in Laws estate when the guy in charge if the firearms began exploiting the situation and adding to his collection without asking. As well as the RCMP would send my mother in law a threatening letter each week "suggesting" the firearms be handed to them with zero mention about her true rights.

We faxed the CFC a letter signed by my mother in law saying I was now in charge of the firearms.

All harassment and bulling stopped when they realised they were no longer dealing with a scared, newly widowed, vulnerable old woman.

Also I'd be curious how the RCMP learned of the guns the op is talking about in the first place?

I was talking to him last night and apparently about half of the guns are rusty. We couldn't figure out exactly how that happened when they're in a cabinet, other than it's a very humid room the cabinet is in.

You answered your own question.

Guns untouched for years means they weren't oiled regularly, and stored in a humid environment. This equals rust.
How this baffles people I will never know.
