Here's a weird one for you I found this one with a bunch of others I can honestly say that I have never seen a John Inglis stamp on a Long Branch CAL cocking piece I understand that maybe LB needed an outside contractor but this is a very late cocking piece stamped with the late CA stamp a post war stamp and my understanding is that when the war ended Inglis had to stop production and all tools and unfinished firearms and parts were sent to CAL .has anybody ever seen any Enfield LB/CAL rifle with JI stamped on any of the parts ? ... interesting..it is to me at least

would need a side by side comparison to a know JI stamp, I am currently leaning towards it being a random inspection mark and a poorly stamped II, But that is not a definite determination, as you can never be sure with an enfield. :)

Skennerton Broad Arrow MkII book lists JI mark (page 87 Inspection Markings, Canada) as:

Likely Long Branch, Ontario mark - Canadian Inglis Bren LMG, WW2 Vintage

Note that the Mark shown in the book has the I with no upper and lower stamping, i.e. it is a straight line.
There is no reference to any armourers or inspection mark as JI with the upper and lower part of the stamp on the I

Did Inglis make parts for the Enfield, or just Bren LMG's?

there was a fascinating video on youtube showing how rifles were made at long branch. lots of diff steps, a warehouse full of machinery, and over a hundred pieces to put together. lots of canadian history in those rifles......
