A friend bought a 2x12 drilling with a 7.7 x 57 rifle barrel.

The only markings it has are described below:

Marked on both 12 gage barrels is “PR KRUPP * STAHL”

Rifle marked 7.7 57

There are various other maker marks, including arrows and many marks that are either a sun with rays going out in all directions or a lion with a mane going out in all directions.

Does this give you any hint as to who made it?

I'm sure if you posted some pics there would be someone here who knows....there is a staggering amount of knowledgeable dudes on here.

I don't know if my buddy's too hip with providing photos to the 'net. I've personally given up on photobucket.

I posted one pic on a hiking web site of scenery and photobucket somehow linked all my photos to it and people looked through them and my thread got banned because of a bear skinning photo in my file.

I asked them if my thread would have been banned if it included a picture of a pack of Maple Leaf bacon. the moderator said yes it would if it showed the pig being slaughtered.

You know you can set your photobucket album to private right?

It will barely open for me any more. But I just double checked and I am currently set on private. They cut me off once and i had to re-sign up. I think the album that got shared was on my old one.

Stahl means steel in German. Krupp was steelworks factory in Essen. To know the maker then need more info. You can PM me if you want to email pics for uploading to the site.

I don't have any photos from my buddy yet. Thanks though.

It is most likely an 8x57 as for a time 8mm rounds in German sporting rifles were intentionally mislabeled as 7.7mm as the Germans were banned from producing 8mm rifles under a treaty. The bores were usually .318. There were many variations including the 8x57 360R which has different rim and body diameters from the 8x57 IR.

In short do a chamber cast before trying to find ammo.
