Unusual repair on P14 stock - anyone know what this is?

Recently acquired a somewhat battered P14 full length stock - looks to be a Remington from the bolt handle inletting. No marking left that I can find to indicate previous military ownership. I found three "strips" installed - not something I have seen before. Anyone seen this? Any idea whether it was a military armourer repair, or home woodworker's work? If I had to guess, was part of an attempt to straighten a warped stock, but that is purely my guess. If it is an original stock, it would be over 100 years old, the installed strips also look "old", but can not tell if 100 or 20 years old...

I've seen those in a few rifles. I had a Weedon-standard refurbed P14 with identical slip patches which were used to stabilize a minor crack. Very likely done in-service.

A buddy is into these and I am fairly certain he referred to these as Weedon-standard refurb repairs.

Pretty common to see these sort of repairs. Some SMLE handguards were apparently made like that, to stop them cracking.

Standard repair, I've actual done the same repair using a popsicle stick to fix a spilt stock on a C6 overseas.

This is what i was thinking but i think ive only seen them on no1 handguards now thinking a bit more about it ( i have a few that have 2 fixes per handgaurd. They are read handguards)

Would love to see that It's been a while since I've seen decent weapons tech wood repairs in CAF.

These slit repairs, and also dovetail repairs to replace chipped-out wood were common as common gets back in the bolt action rifle days
