I've been thinking of replacing the handguards on my Type 81 with something custom-made. First, I thought about going the 3-D VIDEO'S route and simply remaking the lower handguard with palm swell but I've since come across another design I really like, and then thought about how I could even improve on that.
Long story short, I'm wondering if anyone here has ever moved the lower fore-end retainer forward or backward on the barrel. If it's press-fit into place (like the grenade launcher spigot is), I'd rather not go through the trouble of punching out the pin for no reasons.
P.S. The design I'm gonna go with will be based on the Kachin Independence Army's (of Myanmar) Type 81. The one with the interlocking 'teeth' vents. [PICTURE]

KIA has done the most mod to the T81, we can learn from them. of interest are their GL and sniper rail.

handguard is next on my list im finishing my rear mounted iron sight right now but I want to try and make a handgurd like the one in the picture

Theres a pretty ###y version out there that has more of a twin tube cheese grater look to it. Ive seen a picture of it but cant find it again... The Type 81 world is so seclusive, finding info on the foreign variants gives me a migraine lol I look forward to seeing the result!

You might have seen the KIA's grenade launcher variant of the Type81. [PICTURE]. Called the Kachin K011, as opposed to their regular Type81 variant which they call the Kachin K09 and K10.

A hah! I found it again... its actually a feature of the Type 87, a 5.8x42mm variant of the Type 81.

Yeah, that's a pretty funky-lookin' gun. Can't see anything that would indicate exactly how it's built and held in place, though. Rear sight block seems to work differently too.
