Great rifle man. And those results are promising so don't need to make excuses or anything. Love the stock. I'd ask how much but your other half may spit in your supper if you tell me lol :)

Very nice rifle and great start to tuning.

If shooting on that gravel, put a piece of carpeted plywood under the feet. That peat gravel is way too soft a surface to get proper tracking.

Even on the bench. I piece of outdoor carpet will really help improve consistency.

enjoy - and I assume you bedded that action?

The surface on the ground you see is actually granulated recycled tires...
I just put the rifle there for the picture, with 2' of snow on the ground I won't be prone shooting without a sheet of plywood to lay on top of it... The bench is puck board and really slick... I normally carry a piece of antiskid mat for on them but I was rushed today... Lots going on at work!!

Bedded action?? Lol... I only screwd the tube on it last night then spent 2hrs trying to find a spare set of rings that would let me get the glass on it! I would have put my 8-32 SIII on it but I need a rail for extra height to work with my 30mm rings.... Hope you have one in stock for me!!!
Will bed the action to it later in the week when I get a chance...

Any suggestions for projectiles? I have Varget and H4895 on hand.

I have made up a moderate speed load using varget, hrn 154gr SST's in my hunting rifle. Right off the load data on Hodgdon.

For the 7-08, just depends on the bullet weight, and performance you want to get. With a 162, I would lean to H4350. For a 140gr, Varget will be fine.

Bedding is important. Confirm what base you want but the Farrel is likely your tallest base. We can go XTR rings and pick that scope up too. Burris sig zee highs on the farrel will also work.

Jerry

I will need a SA round receiver base that's .500" tall and it should swap over with my talley low rings, will PM you on it

It works in my 111 with a sendero contour

Ok guru, got any Max load data for the Amax?
Hodgon tells me for what ever 162gr bullet they tested that 45gr of H4350 is the max, Lee says that 48c is max... I'm seated out kissing the lands at 2.950 COL and the 46gr load I just seated sounded rather crunchy....

Can't wait to get my biger glass on this sucker...

Use a chronie.

Load data can have some wide ranges but the velocity tends to be very similar. Is it ideal? NO but unless you have a strain gauge, your guess is as good as mine.

Powder lots can vary huge as can primers, barrels and bullets. Assume nothing and start low, working up in small increments. Check for the normal pressure signs backed up with a chronie.

There is no free lunch so if you are getting velocity levels outside the norm, make sure that result makes sense.

Hey! Good idea... I haven't shot my chronie yet this year :D

I'm gunna push up slowly till I see some pressure but would be tickled pink to see 2700fps... I'm just taking a stab in the dark here but I think 25.5 will put me back In the sweet spot...

With a bit of luck next weekend I will be able to pin down my load Saturday and tweak it at 200-300M on Sunday...

This is the most comfortable rifle I think I have ever shot, it's really hard to shoot it poorly and even with factory ammo it's nothing short of impressive!

Why I mention stock fit so often.

It is so much harder to shoot well when the rifle is hurting you or if you can't get in the right position

Good luck and look forward to hearing how it works for you.

Jerry

I might have forgotten to clean that barrel before shipping it..........you better send it back so I can inspect it again...........
Oh I need the stock to............

looks like a contendor.......
