++UPDATE++ CZ Bren 2 MS Barrel in .223 Wylde COMING SOON

Just wanted to add to the thread and see if anyone else ran into the same issue;

Got my barrel back from Dlask the other day. Unfortunately neither of my two Dlask gas blocks seems able to fit the HBI gas regulator I bought. Just a fraction of a hair of material too much to allow it to turn into locking position.. Any one else tried and/or noticed this?

And yes, I know it looks like I'm not holding the detent out of the way. Trust me, I was when using two hands, and it wouldn't fit in my gas block that still doesn't even have a detent pin yet. The photos are just to illustrate the area of issue.

I might be wrong but I don't think Leigh suggested interoperability of third party regulators with the custom block. You would think it should.
Nonetheless with him out of the picture its going to be interesting what kind of a response we get from Dlask.

See, I thought I followed the progression of the project pretty thoroughly and I don't remember that being said. I DO seem to remember him talking about not mixing 11" regulators with 16" regulators, or different caliber regulators together. But I might be wrong as well.

Yeah unfortunately there seemed to be times when things were a little non specific and if something was not noted specifically to the affirmative there was a good chance it wasn't and/or things changed mid thought/project with no real note of it until the end or until someone asked. It was like you had to follow all of the Dlask Bren specific threads/projects to get clues and even then it got confusing. I kind of got similarly messed up with the 7.62 x 39 project. We got shown a NR barrel with short gas system on the pre order, great I bought the appropriate HBI handguard for short gas to find out later the plan was for long gas system and was not clarified until I asked about the discrepancy about 2+ months into the project and only then the details appeared on the web page. Now because of where my HBI handguard adjustment slot is located the only practical way I can change gas settings is to remove the handguard. Whatever, I am not dropping another $500 for another handguard or taking a loss reselling my current one and will simply leave the setting unchanged.

This whole endeavour turned out to be a waste for myself and have sold the various barrels and other parts. I’ll just stick to CZ factory or 3rd party parts from elsewhere. I do appreciate the effort on these Bren 2 projects from Dlask, but it all came up short. The gas blocks do not fit well or at all with the oem short hand guard and hbi gas regulator, which was a real letdown. I bought a Dlask lower rail so I could use the oem short hand guard, but it did not fit well without some modifications on my part.

Hope to see more improvements in the future, but maybe they’ll move away from these projects.

I’m not without sympathy to the current situation that the Canadian firearms industry is facing, but we all still need to live up to reasonable standards and expectations for the work done.

This did come up in the following thread, in particular post #145, #149, #153 and #154:

Thanks for hunting that down for me. Super hard to keep up with all the different threads ahaha.
Yeah I'm not surprised forcing it will put it through, its BARELY in the way, just wanted to avoid forcing it before seeing if anyone else had the same issue. Shame they didn't move the radius a ten-thousandth of an inch back and it probably would have cleared, there's probably enough beef to the gasblock to support it... But I'm no gun designer or builder lol

The real problem lands with CZ and their constant tweaking of the Bren 2 gas system since inception. Not really their fault considering all the military orders with Ukraine and domestically and US post production (sec 922r) rifles.
The changing tolerances kinda prevent us from having a "template gun", for lack of a better term, to take measurements off of.

Hopefully the upcoming Bren 3 with all the battlefield and consumer recommended upgrades and re design doesn't suffer from the same issues.

I figured I should update you guys who may be waiting on that final order of barrels Leigh promised.....I called Dlask about an order I placed online because I was a little afraid it wouldn't go through. I believe it was a Joe I spoke with and he kinda blew it off that I had any concern since Leigh left, that they were still operating normally and that Leigh was just in charge of special projects. So then I asked about the Bren 2 NR barrels some of us were waiting for and he said he wasn't sure and that he probably had them all spoken for but to send him an email and he would see. I secured one on the EE but thought you might appreciate this info. I'm not banking on any more "special projects" coming out of Dlask for a long time.

I received a notification that my NR barrel shipped the other day. I’m still waiting on other components relating to the gas system on another purchase from the spring “gas block and trunnion”. Leigh was waiting for this last batch of NR barrels to go out and the remaining spare components he was going to put up on the website. Not sure if that will ever happen but eventually I’ll have to reach out to Dlask and make sure. If I get any news I’ll post it here if some are still waiting without answers.

I just sent in my barrels for the new trunnion/gas block treatment. Stock gas block/trunnion back on the cz barrel and the dlask block/trunnion on the dlask barrel. I spoke to someone on the phone and asked if they could include a set of the short length gas system regulator, piston, op rod and spring and was told they may have an extra set that I can buy and will mark me down for one. I’ll report back if it works out.

Got my barrels back today. They did have a set of the short gas system components that I was able to purchase. They look great! The Dlask barrel, gas block, piston, op rod, spring, and trunnion are now installed on the bren. The re-installation on my receiver went smoothly and all clearances were as expected. Hopefully this weekend I get a chance to get out to the range to try it out.

I'm happy with the service I received and the quality of the parts. Barring any catastrophic failures I'd say the experience was positive.

Had the dlask barrel and short gas system components out to the range on Friday. Put around 100 rounds through them, both slow deliberate and rapid shooting. They functioned perfectly.

The real durability test will be next summer for cqb and service rifle competitions but I’m pretty confident it’s going to hold up just fine.
