As far as I know, almost all CG o/u's have their receivers cast out of either tin, nickel, or aluminum alloy. That doesn't mean this is necessarily a bad thing. The guns still work just fine, but I would question the gun being able to stand up to 50-100k rounds of trap like. And because of the reciver, you will have to baby it a little more. There's a reason that the citori action has remained relatively untouched since it was designed in the 70's.

If it were up to me, the two choices would be either a Citori or a Beretta. The main difference between a high vs low end browning and a high vs low end Beretta is the selection of the wood, the engraving, and the fit and finish of the rest of the gun. The guts are the same up and down the model line within the same brand.
 
Most Guerini are made from a solid forged steel receiver: http://www.gueriniusa.com/features.shtml Frame / Receiver: The frame is shaped in the famous “Boss” Style with beautifully sculpted fences and bosses. Every frame is machined from a solid steel forging and hardened to make the outside surface hard while leaving the core soft for maximum life. The Summit Sporting used to have a Tinaloy finish on the receiver. I thought that Beretta's had an alloy receiver.
 
i have had 2 berettas 1 browning . sold 1 beretta . other 2 for sale . just got a guerini and she is a keeper . never had a gun that just fits or shoots like it .it is a impact model and it is all ajustable . try 1 and you be the judge . p.s. if you are close to me you can try mine .
 
Guerini or Beretta 686

You can't go wrong with either Caesar Guerini Magnus or Beretta 686e sporting.

It comes down to personal fit and preference.

which gun for trap

My suggestion is to look for a used Browning BT 99.
You will find that most" hooked" trapshooters shoot a single for singles and caps. You may not shoot doubles for a while.The BT 99 should be available for less than $ 1000.It is an excellent trap gun. After a couple of years, you may decide to trade up...by then you will have your own ideas on what might be best for you.
Try to get it fitted to you. If you are medium height or taller insist on locating a 34 inch barrel.

Thanks to everyone for their help and suggestions.

I have purchased a used Beretta S682X O/U Trap shotgun. I just picked it up last night.

It seems to be in very good shape for a used gun. I can't wait to try it out at the Trap club on Sunday.

BTW, if anyone has a beretta hard case for sale that this gun would fit into, let me know.

Congrats, enjoy the gun. Hoping to clay shoot more, but just haven't got into it yet, I'm a hunter first and foremost so 6lb side by sides are what follow me home. One day I'll start with Skeet if I get down south where I can do such things. It's inspiring to see you enter the game, do well and go head over heals for it. Look forward to trying it.
