I was told today by the RCMP firearms center that there is currently no timeline for restricted transfers to Ontario. She said if the transfer was not approved by the END OF MAY! I should call back for an update. 10 weeks for a transfer? I mean I think the average literate person could probably approve thousands of these a day so is there a million gun backlog or something?

It was already at 5-6 weeks before covid so what are we looking at 2-3 months min for a transfer? Something needs to change here this is a completely unacceptable level of service to be getting.

You honestly think this is a priority for the provincial or federal governments right now
Me I am thankful they are open at all and not totally shut down
Have you even visited a call center to see now close normally they work together. I know where my SIL works the normal 15 in a pod side by side is now only allowed 5 and the rest are at home not working
The firearms center is set up no different. Take care of their employees first nothing else should be the no. 1 priority and for this I agree
What needs to change is us and our thinking during this time
Cheers

This would be one of the easiest jobs to set up for people to do from home, a phone line and a laptop is all you need. If an employee can do their job from home then the government should be doing what it can to make that happen. Having a ton of people at home on paid leave is a waste if its a job that can be done remotely and this is definitely one of those jobs.

That being said this was never a priority for the government, it seems that the slower guns change hands the better in their eyes.

Glad you think so. Not all apps can and/ or is acceptable be set up for home access and if anything I would say something the rcmp owns related to firearms would be one for sure but really don't know

Cheers

Thanks.

I don't think I would want the employees of the CFC working from home.
I agree it would be better for their personal safety with regards to Covid19 etc.

I would rather see the CFC have them use every other call desk and keep them separated.
Maybe have some people work different days etc.

But for security of the data, I sure dont want them taking a laptop home and using a non-firewalled internet connection and having someone hack all the CFC data.
I can wait an extra couple weeks for the sake of secure data. Maybe you can't?

BTW, firearms are flying off the shelves in most stores, and there are lots of non commercial transfers as well.
I don't doubt they are swamped.

I have 2 I am waiting for...i can wait

I have a few going through transfer in Ontario.
One initiated March 4th just finished Yesterday (20th).
Still waiting on the one's initiated on the 12th, it really doesn't seem like it's taking them all that much longer than the 2-3 weeks it usually does.
That being said if they've thinned their staff in the last couple days then it could take longer now. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. It'll all get done eventually.

I love in Ontario and sold a restricted to a fellow CGN in Manitoba two weeks ago. Called in on a Friday and transfer was completed the next Monday. Had it been Ontario to Ontario...I would still be waiting on transfer

I'm actually shocked. Order an AR lower on Feb 28. And I just got an email saying they shipped it... Took 3 weeks. Pretty strange how when operations are normal it takes 4-5 weeks here in Ontario lol.

still only a day for Yukon/BC Ordered a pistol Tuesday night and it was approved the following day and I received my Canada Post tracking number on Thursday

Ontario gets what they vote in. Out in the conservative west transfers are done in around 24 hours. I have never waited more than 2 days for any transfer I’ve done.
