Earlier I had reported my dissatisfaction with a new Remington R1S stainless 1911.

The dealer agreed to go to bat on my behalf with the Canadian importer. They agreed to a) refund my money or b) send me a replacement gun; no conditions imposed.
I thought this was pretty generous, but I declined. It would have cost me shipping & handling both ways, with no guarantee that I would be happy with the new gun.

The local gun emporium was happy to swap me straight across for a NIB blued R1. I lost the difference in cost (big deal) between the ss and blued models, but they are good about cutting me deals on anything I buy, so it will balance out in the end.
This blued R1 has a tight slide-to-frame fit, a better trigger pull than my first R1 and no obvious flaws in finish. They feel they will have no trouble selling the R1S, the loose slide-to-frame fit and lack of bevelled mag well notwithstanding.

My wife reminded me that last year, she bought a Marlin .44 mag carbine that was so poorly put together that it went right back into the box - mismatched, poorly fitted wood, incorrectly installed rear sight, ####-eyed in the dove tail, etc. The dealer had no qualms about crediting her account after checking it out and agreeing with her assessment. It was returned to Marlin.

My R1S came from P&D Enterprises in Edmonton. The .44 mag carbine came from Italian Sporting Goods in Vancouver.

I'd buy from both again for their support in backing their customers.

Mine was the last gun in that shipment. I think I know why ..... Had I handled it in the store, it would have stayed there.

Did you select yours personally?

You got lucky, then. I didn't.

When I bought my blued R1 from Epps, I asked for a hand selection of the batch they had on hand. They culled me a good one.
