Update Post 99!!! Marlin Lever Rifles for thick woods hunting. My two!!!

The Leupold 1-4x20 heavy post (tapering to fine near the centre) reticle scope for heavy brush.
The fine reticles we find get 'lost in the bush' in really thick brush.
The heavy posts stand out in a very 'busy' field of view.
Our old eyes need all the help they can get.

I've never been a big lever gun guy but have shot-in a few for friends over the years and found that (In my experience) the Marlins were more accurate than the 94s and seems to be easier to sight in with less drama.

Based on that experience, I did recently buy a 1950 336 in 30-30 with 24" bbl. and undrilled waffle top. I have been looking for a proper vintage receiver sight for the 336 and have found that they are now very collectable and worth a pretty penny. A Lyman 56LA has been offered to me for $160US. <gasp!!>

Fook it, just grab a fresh Lyman 66 LA for the 336. I have a 66 A on it's way to me from Brownell's along with an XS rear peep for my Husqvarna 46a and the total for both was $160.00 & I'm ok with that. (Well kinda.)

Yes. It's the birth year of a close family member & the reason I want one that vintage.

Might even sell my 1991 Marlin 336 in 35 Rem if the 1974 vintage was nicer.

The catalogue picture shows it as a 444 mag. Don't recall ever seeing it called that before.

I thought about that. Have a lead on a like new aluminum 66LA in NS for $75. Sure would simplify things and be easier on the wallet.

I agree that some mounts take away from the sleek lines, but found the rail lets me mount the scope where my eye wants it to be. This is a benefit on a 45-70

My eye piece looks about 2" further ahead than the 2 in the first post.

I liked my first Marlin in 35 Rem so much I just picked up another one off EE. My daughter used my first one to take the biggest buck we have shot at our camp - a tad over 300 lbs - 1 200gr round nose and down he went.

Bought my first 2 brand new irons outta that bible many many years ago.

Now if a fella already owned a .444 would a 35Rem be covering the same bases?

No.
One cannawt have too many Marlins.
I sold my 35 to a buddy last year and regretitted ever since.
And gartzs one in the mail...............................................................

More Marlins is always better, with that I agree 100%...but will the 35Rem do anything the .444 won't, in a real world application?

edit:
I should add that my Chrony says my .444 is making 2200fps with a 240gr RNHP jacketed bullet and making fist sized groups at 100 with the factory sights...an I don't look as good as I used to...
