UPDATE - RIFLE FOUND... Did you buy this rifle from me?

if cfc says u have it but you clearly sold it, then report it stolen to cover your own butt. who ever have it will eventually get pulled over and the cfc will have the serial # flagged anyway. problem solved

Yes, good idea....the guy on the other end gets arrested for having a stolen gun. Paperwork is screwed up and you have to get it sorted. you might be the one at fault for making a mistake not the new owner.

Call the CFC and have a look in more detail. I had a similar problem a couple of years ago. It will take some time to sort out and you might find it was done properly but someone put the wrong digits in and made the mistake. Reporting it stolen is not the answer. Dealing with it is. The person involved here is doing everything he can to fix the situation.

Paperwork screwups happen.

I bought a nice LE from a respected member of this site and got the rifle and paperwork and gave everything the once over and put it away. Months later the seller contacted me and told me he had sent me the right rifle, but transferred another by accident.

The serial #'s looked basically like this:

U24367523 (accidentally transferred)
U24376523 (rifle actual serial #)

You can see how a quick glance can lead to a bit of a booboo on something like that.

I also had Cabelas sell me a Stevens 200 in 22-250, but actually transfer TWO of them to me with consecutive serial #'s. Took me about six calls and six months to sort out.

Easiest solution - scrap the registry

If you started a transfer and it was never completed, they would have the buyers pal number still attached to that reference #.

I once received a new cert for a nice pricey Benelli shotgun. I was the proud owner of something I never even bought. I phoned up the CFC and told them it was a screw up and that I never even bought the damn thing and have no idea that how they put my info on it. The lady insisted it was right and so I just said to her...

OK then if I am the rightful owner of it,and I dont have it then its been stolen from me and I am going to report it to the RCMP as a stolen firearm...she was like no dont do that and I asked why? She said she would call me back..30 minutes later I got a call back from the CFC and they said it was a screw up in the transfer and my pal # was 1 digit different then the buyers and it was all cleared up now.Thats what I told the dumb so and so in the first place...

Thank you very much fellows. I really appreciate your helpful comments.

I would not report it stolen.

Anyway, it has been found. The transfer had not gone through as requested.

All is good. :)
