UPDATE: Rossi Ranch Hand Mares Leg

I took my chiappa into reliable... They sourced a "normal" sized lever for me. I can't stand the big loops...

i just put mine in a vice and a little heat and one turn at a time bluing still great and drilled and tapped the rear sight a shaved wever base and a light laser combo great at night around the farm

hi .just wanted to add my 2 cents on my rossi experience. I bought it in 44 mag and found it shot high and left. way high and way left. so far I have used 2 brands of ammo. (lellier&bellot) 240 grs and (prvi partisan) 180 grs. neither of these are smooth loading into the chamber. once I use these up I will try some other brands. I hope to find one that will load properly. with the sights I went to a very low profile rear that has the adjustable insert. by laying the sight strap right against the barrel I was able to remove material off the insert until I got it zeroed in. the one thing I like about this is the hammer has to be cocked to see the sight( kinda lets you know your loaded and ready to go ). the windage part really irks me because I have the front sight cocked away over left and the rear way over right to pull the poi to bullseye. not a sign of a well balanced gun as far as im concerned. I think rossi deserves a big wet raspberry over this issue. overall, with all its faults I do love the gun though. tons of fun to shoot and the son in law took it with him on the bear archery hunt. got a lot of interest from everyone. I work with leather a bit so decided to make my own rig for it. tried to put a pic on here but guess im too stupid to figure out how. any advice on that would be appreciated. ok , that was long winded enough

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone has seen this problem. When I #### the action, the bolt doesn't seem to want to #### the hammer all the way. It's as though the bolt is loose inside the receiver. When the action is to the rear, I can press down on the bolt and it will #### the hammer the rest of the way to lock it into place, but it won't do it on its own.

If I'm not making myself clear, please let me know.

Sounds handy.
I can almost picture it in my mind..... :)

Is your barrel indexed correctly? Does the front sight look vertically plumb when you are sighting from the shoulder?

no. it doesn't look indexed right. almost looks like the front sight groove was milled out off center from the rear one

Just finished Moose hunting and looking at one more deer trip for this year
So my freezer is looking good time to go hunt with Chiappa ML
A one week hunt on Haida Gwaii I haven't here'd of any one getting deer with there mares leg just wondering if any of you have yet ?

Hello! I know that this is dealer forum but i want this to be part of mares leg forum. If moderators want to move this post please do it. Iwant to show my version of Rossi ranch hand. I wanted short gun for backpacking with option of shooting it as a rifle so no wood for me. I used 1 1/4 by 3/8 flat aluminium and 1/2 round aluminium. Total cost about 10 bucks and a lot of elbow grease. Im wondering what do you guys think of my ranch hand?

Would you be able to make one of these for me? Very interested, it's exactly what I am looking for. I tried PMing you twice but doesn't seem to be working.. If you can't, can anyone else? I have 0 metal working tools and not much skill with it.. I guess if worst comes to worst I could bring the pictures and the buttplate off my Rossi to a machine shop..

Let me know! Thanks!

now you have a new job

So I got my 45 today. Running some brass through it the extractor is so stiff it won't jump the rims of the cases. Anyone have some tips on how to fix this?

Edit. So after much time on google got it figured out. Removed a few thousandths off the extractor by the pivot point. Works flawlessly now.

Fit and finish really isn't spectacular, the wood sucks, the metal is nice. I like it anyways, other than the sharp edges on everything. Honestly have cut myself and bled off the butt stock plate on this thing.

Rossi reminds me of Norinco, a little rough around the edges, the odd lemon, but usually nothing that can't be tuned up.

Just picked this up , chiappa mare's leg. Fit and finish is superb, no sharp edges and wood is great..
Love this thing !!!

Can someone tell me where I can get nice belt holster for it??

That is definitely a nice piece!! I love the take downs. I just finished ordering front + rear sights for my ranch hand, and a Lee gun slinger kit.

If you look back at the start of this massive thread, I think the first few pages have Driller and SpaceSaver talking about holsters.. I think it's SpaceSaver anyways, he makes really nice ones.

If you can't find what your looking for PM me.

You bet!

Click here to see the order form for custom holsters. The leatherworker is a saddle and tack maker local to us who has produced some gorgeous dropleg holsters for these short barreled ranch guns for us!

Cheers,
Daniel
