UPDATE: Rossi Ranch Hand Mares Leg

Thanks Spacesaver;
I'll keep watchin to see what you have available and glad to hear about your options.
I can well imagine the work with loops an tooling.

Doc.

lol. it sounds to me like rossi has too much demand for these in the states, which may delay our little shipment....

sigh, I hope we get them sooner than later... and if wanstalls cant even get a hold of rossi on the phone we have problems haha.

Yep - they come with the large loops. Small loops and full length stocks are expected to be available for those who want to change the configuration, and i doubt you'd have much trouble selling the large lever if you bought a small lever to replace it. It is directly interchangable with the other rossi carbines of similar model.

I was wondering if a person were to go with a full length stock and decided that they were to want to go back to the shorty, could you legally do so or would that count as modification to under 26"?

Good question I've been thinking about that myself.
I can't see any problem with setting aside the original stock and putting on a full-length. When when you want to restore your mares lag to the original I'm positive you are good to go.
The keywords(restored to original)

It's not a modification to put on an original factory stock. IF it were, we'd break the law every time we had to replace a broken stock :)

anybody else going loopy constantly checking this thread for updates? :D

I'd be happy if someone started the inevitable 'range report' thread so I could subscribe to it and just wait. I'm worried about feeding problems after reading about the latest Marlins. I have no clue what to buy, but I'd like it to work well.

look up american range reports. I have and have not come across feeding issues, or reliability issues, however these specific rifles have not been around for a long time so it is possible that something will come up in the future although I doubt it based on the reviews I have seen. These are built better than the chiappas and the pumas supposedly.

I don't think you will find a range report out of the US mares leg is considered a fun toy to shoot. They have better options available to them.
You probably won't see anything until us greedy Canadians get our dirty little hands on them. Should be interesting to see the comparison between the original configuration versus the. Full stock carbine!
I'm sure there will be some Americans jealous over our really short carbines.

It's an old design and Rossi has been making them since the 80's so they should function just fine. Like anything mechanical and made by people there could be a few lemons that need tweaking but all and all I'd say there is not much to worry about and with possibly a few spring changes and some action smoothing these will be good for most right out of the box.

Carverk, some Americans will be jealous of the Mare's leg with a full stock but for most of them it would just be a matter of paying a stupid tax and then they could also do the same thing as us and more..... (like put a silencer on it and convert it to full auto...)

What pisses them off is that they would have to pay "the man" but at least they have that option if they really want it.

PS Carver, I still can't believe how well that software works for you....... I'm glad you've stuck around!

I spoke with Gary on the telephone and he said unfortunately there order has been bumped do to demands with the US market. Looks like MAY
driler I was talking to a guy how sent a couple of Chiappa out with is seismic crews he told me they love them.
I've decided to get both one Chiappa and one Rossi that way I can have one original and the carbine in 44 Magnum!

well thats good to hear that they love them in the field, I havent even heard of them in the field before.

too bad about the may shipment date, those damn americans always putting themselves first :p

thanks for being patient and trying to get us these rifles wanstalls I really appreciate all of the work you are putting into this!

I had a similar problem with SSD (solid-state drive for computers) last year. Several canadian sellers were out of stock, promised stuff for the next month, only to have their shipments relabeled to US distributers. This happened several months in a row.
