UPDATE: Rossi Ranch Hand Mares Leg

Hmm. The QC is apparently poor. I was expecting better from Rossi. I guess they are rushing.

Looks like you've got it all in hand though.

I also emailed a bit with Steve regarding the sight issues. He suggested his front sight in conjunction with his lower rear sight. He was unsure how the safety replacement sight would work with the gun held at arms length.

Mine also has some QC issues. Namely some of the screws. Rossi is out of stock on the screws but said they will provide replacements.

I plan to pickup a copy of Steve Youngs Rossi 92 dvd, replacement mag follower, ejector spring, and front sight. I have my rear filed down to the point that I am close to POA = POI I won't remove any more from the rear sight until I get my new front sight.

And yes a higher QC, no safety, bonus full length stock, would make an awesome Canadian only version.

It's about what I expected from Rossi as I've seen poor examples in the past as well. I don't mind dealing with minor fit and finish issues and as long as the barrel is indexed correctly the rest is pretty easy to deal with but it would be nice if the price up here reflected a bit more on the quality control issues.

Oh and the other thing I forgot to mention in the last post is that the loop where the saddle ring attaches is now loose and wiggles a bit which I never noticed before.

I think it is normal for saddle rings to twist a bit. Its just a small screw into a relatively thin piece of metal and it has to do a bit of work. You could put red or green locktite on it, but that might just help it to break off!

I think it needs a certain amount of articulation to avoid snapping off.

It's not a stud like I've seen on some winchesters. It's a u shaped piece that attaches in two places...

I'm getting feeding problems with my rossi ranch hand. It looks like the little piece of metal that holds the rounds in the mag tube stays up when I work the lever. If I push it down with a pen the rounds get on the elevator...
How do I clear that ?

Just got mine, been practicing spin-cocking all day (have some sight-kisses on my arm an that butt-plate is not soft at-all!

Love the look and feel. The fit and finish is definately waaaaaay rougher than my Rossi Puma, which is pretty tight in all respects. The box says "Made in Brazil by Taurus" so the Puma is probably made at a different plant or something.

I am dissapointed by the sights, not that you can really aim this little thing, but seriously, the front sight looks like a flame-melted army man its so out of whack.

Still very happy I bought it. Can't wait to shoot it.

Was. Was made at a different plant. Taurus recently aquired them.

My exterior fit and finish is fine, but the action is rougher than my previous rossi puma. However - that can be attended to pretty quick :)

Probably just a burr on the shell latch or the receiver binding it up. It's somewhat of a process to strip these guns nit you aren't up to it just keep working it with no oil and it will smooth out

There's lots of folk you could send it to if you don't feel up to touching it up yourself. You also might well want to order steve's video and spring/follower kit which will walk you thru things pretty thoroughly, plus he'll happily talk to you on the phone and help you sort it.

Mine is feeding flawless. Trigger breaks clean. Better than my winchester. 44mag lead flat swc are no problem. Off hand a 25 feet 6 out of 7 rounds touching.
The wood isn't as nice as a puma/chiappa but it is solid and clean over all. The barrel is very slightly over indexed and it shoots high and to the left a couple inches at 25 feet.

Overall I'm very happy with it for the money and had a blast shooting it.

Nice shooting! I just noticed that my front sight is about 3/8" high on the Ranchhand and on a Rossi Trapper I have the sight is 1/2" from the factory.....Rossi should put their taller 1/2 inch sights on the Ranch hand! It's not like many will be using the top level of the elevator!

FINALLY got mine after quite the situation. need I say more than Canada Post?

anyways, it is fun as hell and smaller than I imagined. after shooting some 240g hollow points I also find it shoots really high. I had to aim about 5 feet in front of my target (can) to hit it, but that can be solved with a new sight. it feeds and functions perfectly, and the fit is a tad off with the stock but nothing really that noticeable. I am going to go shoot that pesky muskrat tonight so he stops ruining the banks on our dugout. :D
