UPDATE: Rossi Ranch Hand Mares Leg

yea including taxes, were you one of the first to get one tbrwlf?

they were more pricey for the first of us that got them, not by much though.
 
Hello! I know that this is dealer forum but i want this to be part of mares leg forum. If moderators want to move this post please do it. Iwant to show my version of Rossi ranch hand. I wanted short gun for backpacking with option of shooting it as a rifle so no wood for me. I used 1 1/4 by 3/8 flat aluminium and 1/2 round aluminium. Total cost about 10 bucks and a lot of elbow grease. Im wondering what do you guys think of my ranch hand?

I like the stock but think the angle on the new buttstock is off. How does it feel?

But I do like the idea.
 
It feel great now. First idea was to make round bar at 90 deg to the but plate but it didnt work well for me. That stock is on the short side ( lenght of pull 11,5 in) but at least i can use the end of wooden stock for cheekweld.
 
For back packin' or camping I think its' a cool little setup.
I wish Rossi would make these guns with saddle ring carbine
stocks and chamber them in some nifty calibers like .32-20,
.25-20 and .454 Casull. Standard size levers would sure help.
If enough people bugged them about it, we might get some
happening.;)

That is really good. Is the plate welded to the rod, or is it threaded both ways?

Sorry to hear about the delays Boomer! There is a guy out towards Mission I believe who is a cowboy action shooter and cowboy action gunsmith......maybe it would be better on his bench? I doubt he'd even need Steve's DVD to get it sorted.
I'm going to PM you his website.....I've heard from others here that he(Peter Riedel) does great work slicking up cowboy guns!
 
As previously mentioned 3 hours from beginning to end, including watching the video for me to slick up my RH using Steve's video. And I've never taken a '92 apart before. They are ridiculously simply to work on. A set of screwdrivers, a punch and a file or benchgrinder are all you need.

And does anyone have pictures and the length of pull of a trapper and the carbines? Is it different from the standard length rifle?
 
To answer Kanaima's question: The length of pull on the M92 with
a Boyd's stock installed is 13 & 1/8".
The length of pull on my Ranch Hand with Rossi SRC stock is 12.5"

After many months of waiting, today I finally got my ranch hand in 44mag. Intitial impression was great, untill I tried to cycle some rounds through it and found the cases would not release into the feeding ramp.
Anyone else experience this problem? Just to let you know that this test was done with el cheapo blazer ammo..... hope this is the reason and not a mag tube defect.

Friggin' show-off ... you can kiss my ass.

I'm happy for you ... that you can disassemble a lever-action rifle down to its component parts ... and machine/grind all the steel tiny bits ... and re-assemble it all correctly again. In three hours. You got confidence and talent and big balls.

But most of us are just Average Joe folks, with a healthy regard about getting-in 'way over our heads ... and then having to send all the pieces in a nice big box to an expensive professional. And feeling really stoopid ... and thinking, "What was I thinking?"

You should be a gunsmith ... make $75 / hour and have bumblers like me accepting two-month wait lists.

Carefully disassemble the rifle and fully degease the parts with light gun
oil or Hoppes#9 applied to shop towels and Q-Tip swabs. Check to make sure that the plastic magazine follower isn't cracked or have burrs on it. Use a cleaning rod with light solvent moistened patches to thoroughly clean the
inside of the mag tube.(They are normally pretty cruddy.)

When everything is cleaned and reassembled, give it another test session
to see if the problem still exists.
The Blaser ammo should not be the culprit.;)

Check all your screws to.....maybe there's a loose screw messing with you.
Also don't baby the lever.
