UPDATE: Rossi Ranch Hand Mares Leg

It's even great for storage to protect it.

:rockOn::rockOn::rockOn:

I just received my new Voodoo tactical breachers scabbard from Wanstalls today. It fits my Ranch Hand like it was designed for it. The scabbard is going to work well when I pack my Ranch Hand on the tractor and even walking through the field. Thanks Wanstallsfor the awesome service.

X2!!!! Theres a reason Wanstalls is one of my top dealers in this country! :D:D:D

Mate for my full stocked Ranch Hand

My Ranch Hand needs a mate and after putting the full stock on it I think this will soon be his new best buddy:

if you reload and are looking for a gun to pack with you in the bush " just in case " you meet up with something that has big teeth and is large and furry ......... and hungry .....

go with the 45 colt .

if you don't reload , go with the 44 mag

if you want a cheap plinking gun go with the 357

Thank you for the reply! Very good reasoning. It's mostly a toy for me so .357 makes sense.

Final (and very positive) gunsight report ...

The trade kinda "fell through" on my .44 Mag Ranch Hand, and so I have it back ... and I'm pleased to report that the issue of the way-off factory sights has been sorted-out.

The front sight is now the Rossi-spec green fiber optic from Steve's Gunz ... and so it shall remain.

The first rear replacement sight was a Rossi-spec Skinner's peepsight. With the peepsight screwed down as low as possible, that combination was shooting within an inch of my point-of-aim at 15 metres, but ... even with the peepsight's aperture removed ... I felt that fast-target-acquisition (and a reasonably-sized sight picture) was not acceptable when the unmodified Ranch Hand was fully extended in either single-hand or two-hand hold.

I removed the Skinner's peepsight and installed the Steve's Gunz low rear flat-top sight. The gun is now shooting fine two-inch groups at 15 metres, and Point of Impact is now equal to Point of Aim. The shooting-high "elevation issue" of the stock factory sights has been solved ... for my eyes and chosen distance anyways.

Now to sell the Skinner's peepsight in the EE ... it's well made and robust and would be great with "normal" rifle geometry.

Ammo was 240 grain jacketed factory stuff from Winchester (solids) and AE (small HP).

I know that people are gonna laugh, but take a look at the little Lee Loader kit. When I was a kid it cost all of $9.95, and I think that they somehow maintained that price for about thirty years. It's an amazing little bit of ingenious engineering and now costs about $30.

It's fer-sure not fast, but that makes it no less satisfying. :)

I bought one for my first .357 magnum (a S&W Model 19) in 1974.

The lee loader website says that the kit isn't recommended for use with a lever pump or semi!?

The main reason is it neck sizes cases only. So reloaded cases may get stuck in the chamber (especiallky if it's dirty) after firing. The risk of this happening is especially high if you use cases that were fired in another gun before reloading, as that gun's chamber may be bigger than your gun's. You may wind up with the extractor ripping the rim off , or breaking ( it happened to me with an Remington autolaoder, back when I was starting
out)

The other possibility is bullets in the mag tube being pushed back if the round is not crimped.

For starting out, and low volume reloading my favorite would be an RCBS Rockchucker.

BOOMER and JOHNC: Thanks for the tip(s). I will definitely be trying that.

For those who thought my idea of a laser pointer under the barrel was cool. Forget it. I tried it at the range and in moderate light conditions the red beam was invisible at 25 yards. I guess as a low light, or intimidation item, it would be okay.

I will keep it on the gun for low light encounters with unfriendly four footed beasties. But they aren't intimidated by red lights are they.

I need to rework the iron sights and get back to the range again.

Still thinking about how to make a stock add-on work. If I get it done I will post pictures and a how to.

Got my new sight combo from brownells installed and she now shoots POA at 50m. Much more fun to shoot now that I don't have to aim 2' below the target!

Now to get a full stock for her when she is not in the backpack..

Quick (and obvious) question ... what exactly is your "new sight combo from brownells"?

Folks here have been saying that Steve's Gunz gunsights are just re-branded gunsights from Brownell's.

That's OK ... it's much-less-intimidating to order from Steve's Gunz ... and just pay a slight premium to Steve (who's working the system in a modest and ... to me ... acceptable manner).

Yankee traders ... :)

Good for them, and their profit.

Anyone using the rear safety replacement sight with a fiber front sight in "pistol" configuration...

With that setup can you still shoot it two handed or will I need a full stock with the rear safety sight??

Thanks

mine works quiote well out to about 40-45 yards in pistol configuration - only range I had available at the time - groups about 2-3" with Factory 240 gr. haven't set up the my rear full stock yet. need to buy sandpaper and find the time.

I use a push ( back "grip") pull ( forearm) style. I removed the aperture to set up a ghost ring sight and it's pretty quick. Recoil quite manageable with this technique and factory ammo I was using. I can do better accuracy wise with the aperture in but it's too slow for a hunting or "Bear" scenario

The sights folks are getting from Brownells are made by Marble's.
Steve's sells the Marble's sights as well as his own rear peep sight.
The advantage with Brownells account holders, is a big saving in
cost over Steve's and more selection on sights.;)

That is the same technique I use, and I also planned to use it more as a ghost ring than the aperture.

Did you get a taller front sight? Green? Red?

Thanks.
