UPDATE: Rossi Ranch Hand Mares Leg

I think trimming it down a bit and then custom fitting a but pad is a good idea and will look more balanced then a full stock overall.
It's not like you are cutting down a classic piece of wood on a classic gun so no one can scream Bubba on this one!

Good point, and you're right, it's just walnut. I'm also contemplating a quick take-down type screw to make switching out the stocks quicker (than it already is). Whatever happens, this is my second lever, and I do love these things for reasons I can't fathom, other than that there's probably a Lever Ghost and I've been afflicted.

My PGW butt stock arrived today and it's a good'un. Only took 2 weeks and
it showed up in great shape thanks to the good packaging job by PGW.
:dancingbanana:
Nicely figured piece of American black walnut.

Generous wood around the inletting will make fitting my brass buttplate easier.

Inletting is well cut and easy to final fit.

Finally found time to fit the new stock from Precision Gun Works:

It wasn't too bad with my not-so-handy-in-a-condo skills, but she is now way more shoot-able. Now I just have to cut-down and finish the stock, rework the sights, start reloading 45 Colt, and find a better way to sling the little thing.

The sling in the pic is just an old-school CF rifle sling through the saddle ring. It works pretty well as a single point where the rifle hangs out of the way on my support side and is easy (for me, anyway) to cross draw from there. The love for this thing just doubled.

I've been struck with it too. I find I am checking out levers now, constantly. Damn!
I'm definitely picking up another shortly.

If you are considering this firearm, I suggest you also consider the Henry's Mare's Leg. Check out the comparisons on YOUTUBE. Henry is well known for it's reliability and crisp, clean high quality action.

I don't doubt the Henry, but the absence of a loading gate drove me to the Rossi. I know, I know, smoother action, better sights, etc. With more $$$ I'd have both.

Apparently you can have several tubes pre-loaded with ammo, and you can quickly dump them into the loading tube.
Haven't seen it done though.

I have been trying to get this idea goin with my friend that has a lathe ... If someone knows where to get these that would be even easier. Sometimes a 44 mag is to much for a poor little ole grouse.

My .45 RH is almost finished. I fitted my PGW stock and made a brass
butt plate from 1/8" flat bar. Along with a Steve's ejector spring plus my
own brass follower and lever resizing job, this rifle is just about ready.

I just have to get a couple of steel, oval head screws to replace the
wood screws that are temporarily holding the butt plate on.
These are fun guns to work with.;)
