UPDATE: Rossi Ranch Hand Mares Leg

Got my sights and tool kit from Steve today, great service, just over 2weeks to ship to Nova Scotia by mail, no tax, no duty, no service charges by Canada Post.

Has anyone done the complete action job on their ranch hand after getting the video from Steve's Gunz. If so did they have any problem putting it back together. It looks easy to do, but I'm sure there will be some small problems for us rokie gun smiths.

My .45 RH is almost finished. I fitted my PGW stock and made a brass
butt plate from 1/8" flat bar. Along with a Steve's ejector spring plus my
own brass follower and lever resizing job, this rifle is just about ready.

I just have to get a couple of steel, oval head screws to replace the
wood screws that are temporarily holding the butt plate on.
These are fun guns to work with.;)

Hey SHELLSHUCKER, that looks good! What colour/brand did you use to stain the stock in order to match the original wood? Curious as I'm wanting to avoid refinishing the originals just to get a match.

Yes it is quite difficult due to tolerances to get it back together. one thing i recomend, don't take apart the lever and the locking lugs as you don't need to...in the end it will make it easier to put it back together ... putting the front barrel band screws in are a pain... some peoples are easy... mine still are not in.....good luck be calm and don't bring out the hammer

Yaeh they are built fairly tight. I had some issues but I have fair bit of experience. As long as you take your time and don't get impatient shouldn't be too hard for a rookie to do.

Thanks. I used Varathane dark walnut gel stain on the fore end, after stripping off as much of the reddish Rossi stain as I could without sanding. For the walnut butt stock, I used Varathane traditional cherry stain to add a hint of red. I still have to darken down the fore end some more by mixing dark walnut stain with Tru Oil and rub in a few more coats.

Now I have two "Baby Carbines" to play with. The top one is .357 mag. and below it is.45 Colt.

To answer folks gripes with re-installing the fore end screw, all I did with mine was, after disassemling
the fore end & magazine tube, enlarge the hole in the wood with a slightly larger drill. I then dressed
the hotches in the barrel and magazine tube with a small diameter chainsaw file. This file merely
widened the notch without deepening it. You don't want that. When I reassembled the gun, I fit the
screw back into place, then gave it a light tap with the butt of my screwdriver to set it and then
screwed it in till it seated.

How do you attach a picture from a iPad, I do not see any place.
Would like to put up a picture of my Predator Ranch Hand with the green dot laser and light.
making an aluminum stock extension next.

Something close can be had, using a Hammond Game Getter. A brass shell using a .22cal ramshot (fastening tool) cartridge, includes a steel swage to convert shot into the appropriate size. I've been using one in my 30-30 for grouse, etc, about four years. He sells at all the major shows in Alberta/BC/Sask.

Got my Ranch Hand ready for zombie hunting.
I got 3 sets of sights mounted on it.
Got the 2 sights from Steve.
Added a green NcStar laser dot sight with flashlight to the front with epoxy and screws to the stock.
Added a red dot Burris fast fire with a bracket that is epoxied to the wood stock, just behind the rear sight, I can still look through the regular sights , so can use all three.
I can't post pictures but will send some for some one to post if they send my their email.

I just read all 300 pages again, lots of info I missed first time, if you are interested in a RH then you should read it.

It's in here somewhere but I'd just say the tallest one you can find! You will need something close to .5 inches and probably have to carve out or switch your rear sight as well.....
Martha Stewart would probably hot melt glue a large toothpick to her existing front sight and trim it down till it hits correctly. Then all she would have to do is take a direct measurement of her own gun! She's so crafty......
