*UPDATE* Weatherby Accumark in .340 Weatherby

much better choice compared to an Elite 4200

Yes, I think so too. And the price for this one was exactly the same as I would have paid for the Elite 4200...$479 plus tax. :D

I was initially looking to get a bit more magnification on the top end...but I'll sure enjoy the 2x low end for hunting in the thick stuff, and if I can't hit the big bastards that this rifle is surely intended for with 8X, then I might as well pack her in!

Well, I got the scope mounted...it does look a bit short but man will work great!

I broke down and bought a box of factory ammunition to treat myself...:)

Congrats!! I have wanted THAT model in THAT caliber since they first came out. I have a Euromark in .340 but tend to baby it. The Accumark looks all business.

Nice photography, too.

Very Nice indeed Jeff, I do like the look of those flutes.
Brake is going to be loud though.

I had mine out the last couple days and it shoots hole over lapping hole, I'm glad I had one built. I must be getting used to it a bit better, this time it didn't bite, actually quite comfortable to handle.
Have you shot yours yet? how do you find it handles for you?

Since were on the subject of 340 Weatherby Mag and new to me, sort of thing I thought I'd share this one with you while were here.

Here's a 340 in a Browning BBR

Nice sold action to work with, short bolt throw (60 degree).

Notice the Factory 24" 7mm Barrel just above the rifle. It barely fits in this case now.

Looks like a long barreled hillbillies gun from the picture, the barrel actually measures just a hair short of 26.75".

Two scope which one? I went with the Vari-X III 4.5-14 X 40 AO Burris Signature Posi Zee Rings and plain old Weaver bases for now.

I hope everyone enjoyed the photos.

Congrats again Jeff

B Ruddick,

Thank you for sharing those pictures of your rifle...what a beauty! ;)

I will have a chance to fire mine on friday, so I'll write back with my findings. Speaking of long barrels...I can't even fit mine into the gun safe the way I have it currently configured (with shelves above, even though I cut rifle notches out of them  )

I'm sure the brake is going to be loud, so I plan to remove it for hunting...

Jeff.

I'll let you know when I'm ready to sell it - just in case! ;)

Range report

Well, I took it out yesterday for a test run. :)

I was surprised to find it fairly comfortable to shoot from the bench. I was using some Factory Federal Premium loads w/ the 225 TBBC bullets. It kicks alright, but with my PAST shoulder strap on device ;) in place it wasn't uncomfortable at all. I think the muzzle brake makes a huge difference, likely.

I was achieving 3 shot groups at 100 yards in the 1 1/2" inch range, so I'm looking forward to loading for it in the hopes of shrinking these some...all in all, already an "acceptably accurate" sledgehammer!

Jeff.

I think the scope you chose is your problem, a Bushnell will help you shrink those groups to 1/2" ;). Sell me that scope and move on to bigger and better things :D

Bushnelll...why, of course!

Ya' think...?

The factory load sure looks nice...did you see that picture? Like I said...it's in the first posting as an update. Anyway, here it is:
