So I was shown a rifle today that the guys who owns it wanted me to buy for what I think is a ridiculously low price for what it is. I want to find out more as my friend is retired and could use getting the most he can for this beauty of an enfield.

So it's a 1944 not a 42 like I original posted, no 4. Full wood, all metal intact. No bayonet. It has matching numbers all over it.
Stock is amazing and has a dark brown cheek riser attached. It also has a (#32) scope mounted with serial numbers matching the rifle. The scope also has it's own metal transit case also with numbers matching.
The magazine kinda got me as it is welded to fit 1 round only.
It is a beautiful rifle and I'll get to take detailed pics and a range session this week.
Thoughts from the experts?

Sounds like a No. 4 T. What does it say on the left cheek- manufacturer? The scope serial number should be on the upper tang of the buttstock and the rifle serial number should be on the scope bracket for it to be " matching". If it's genuine, being a '42 (very early for T's) suggests it could be quite valuable. Look forward to the pictures.

I thought they stamped a "T" on the serial number, but that might have just been the model name not a serial edition. Those are all the telltale signs of a sniper from what I've read. By "welded for 1 round" do you mean like the mag is "pinned" at 1?

Have a look here. The mag may be correct or may be altered according to Skennerton. Very much doubt it'd be welded. Add the W's.

I'm not sure for how much it was offered to you but keep in mind that it takes at least $1250 to build a replica from parts. I build this one myself, found rifle with brand new barrel collected all bits and pieces.Sourcing all parts take awhile. From rest prone position it will hit our ranges gong 9 out 10 with constant wind

Nice one Corwin, I did the same about two years ago with a fresh from refurb/sporter shop No4 Mk1/3 Long Branch. When done right they are amazing. I baked our 700m (16x16") gong first shot last night after not shooting that far for almost a year. Too much fun.

I highly doubt it's someones attempt at a replica but I'm no pro at this stuff
this rifle has been in a canvas scabbard , locked up since the 70's when this gentlemans dad passed away and left him the rifle. he took it out way back then and shot it, cleaned it and it's been put away since. it's thing of beauty :D
I'll hopefully get to take some pics in the next day or so, been far to wet to take this girl to the range .

Sure does look like a legit all matching No4(T) from where I'm sitting!

As for the sling...doesn't look like the right thing. You need a 1907 US leather sling, a pretty common item.

if any of you enfield pros want to pm me to give me an idea what this rifle "might' be worth or if you can shed any light on what the rifle's history would be and of course, is it an authentic british sniper rifle.

otherwise, enjoy the pics, ain't she a beauty eh?
I get to shoot her tomorrow :)

from what I've gatherd so far, and thanx to Cantom for giving me the list of markings to look for in the other thread.
manufactured at Shirley in England
tested as above accuracy and sent to Holland and Holland for the rest.
I can't find any FTR marks so I'm assuming she's all original.
there is a scabbard coming tomorrow that I'm hoping is original as well. no bayonet or any other accessories
the magazine has no real identifiers and originally I thought it was fastened somehow to accept only one round but after messing with it it actually appears to accept 10 after all LOL
magazine has a very shiny black paint

I would buy that in a heartbeat. Looking at prices on gunbroker, a No.4 T with matching scope and scope can in similar condition, but with the transit box, just went for $4,500 US.

It was offered to me for so cheap, I could be making out like a bandit.
However, karma being what it is, and the old gent who owns this rifle is a friend.... I just couldn't do it.
Nor do I have the spare cash to spend on a 5K to 7+K rifle right now LOL

I would do whatever I had to do to buy that rifle, if I was lucky enough to have one offered to me for sale. That's a thing of beauty.

I know eh? , my brain has been hurting since the moment he pulled it from the scabbard and I laid eyes on it.
I might offer up my 2 year old yamaha grizzly 550 in trade now that at I have an idea on it's rarity and value
