Small update on post 24.
So I spent the past week in the shop building my first rifle after cancelling a factory one that wasn't arriving.
.260rem caliber.
Barnard S action
Bartlien 6.5mm 30" 5R 8twist (finished it at around 29.65 ")
Jewell 1.5-3oz trigger
Sightron 8-32x56 Lrtd-tdt(1/8 clicks)
Barnard 17moa rail.
Nightforce ultralite rings.
All components were bought from Hirsch Precision, excellent service.
I ended up spending a couple days making tooling like an action wrench, cathead for the steady as my lathe's headstock is too big to do it through and my Cyclematic 618evs lathe is a bit too small.
I really wanted to make my own stock in aluminium, this is really just a Prototype. I essentially drew a few lines on a piece it material and rolled with that, left most pieces a bit long to trim back after. I really wanted a rifle I could get right behind of as I don't really like tilting my head too much when trying to look through a scope. Overall it was a really fun project and now I have about 50 changes to do to the stock so as soon as time allows I'll be doing something more refined.
All parts are just as machined. No recoil pad on it yet, and at around 18.5-19lbs with scope on I doubt she'll kick very much.
Recoild lug is under the action, made it to fit a tight counterbore in the stock. Action is not bedded at this time, just sits on 3 contact lines, main being the bottom and then just touches at the top line of the stock, will see how that does, I gotta buy a right angle head for the mill...
If you guys have some extra input about things that could be changed or what some people might be looking for in a stock I wouldn't mind adding it to the next one, haven't thought of a good patern to put on the sides of it yet where the actions sits and don't wanna do the 2-3 ball mill lines like most do. I'm hoping to get it to a point where it might be worth making a few for others as well if there's any demand for that, one of various things in mind.
I'm taking it to the range in a few hours if the plans don't change.
so here is the beast. Hopefully the pics will size ok.
