UPDATED: Problems on refurbished Sig P226. New progress...

The ones I looked at did had a red case with one-year warranty. And the blue paper wrap on the grip. Is it CPO, then?

If there is a blue paper wrap around the grip and the gun comes with a case plus a blue cable lock. Then it is CPO, another clue is to look at the instruction manual, which should be stamped certified preowned. All CPOs from Sig comes with an one year warranty.

Your looking for

on the bottom of the slide. Mine was KA and using that numbers code K is 9 and A is 0; = 1990.

I got 200 rounds through my gun this weekend, functioned flawlessly, shot more accurate than I am. I need to pick my self up some ammo and get to practicing.

I have got the gun. The letters there is KH, so it means it was mannfactured in 1997?

Here below is the new progress on the story:

April 3 -
Picked up the refurbished P226 from the gun store. Both sights were adjusted to centre. The gun looked and felt wonderful. It looked almost brand new, except a few scratch marks on the barrel which I knew was normal and minimal.

.

April 7 -
Took the gun to the range. Shots were all to the left side, and became wider and wider until all shots flew. I looked down at the gun, and saw that the rear sight had moved to the left edge of the slide, and was just "hanging in" there. I moved it back to centre with my finger, and realized it was completely LOOSE.

My wife gave it another try, and the rear sight dropped from the slide and it took us some time to find it on the floor.

Later, when I cleaned the gun, I found that the front sight was loose, too.

April 9 -
I hesitated when I was about to take the gun back to the gun store for warranty fix. I believed they would just Locktite the sights, which would come loose again sooner or later. I was looking for a better fix (firm but adjustable), which should be done by a gunsmith.

.

April 10 -
I took the gun to Joe Dlask. He had some 2-year-old P226 night sights that were slightly bigger than the original sights, and he would install them onto my gun at the charge of $65, parts and labor all included. These night sights do not glow in the dark any more, but I believed that $65 was a good deal, and so I took it.

.

April 11 -
New sights were installed and sighted in. They are tight, but will be adjustable if necessary. They are taller than the original sights, too. I think this is the best solution to the loose sight problem on the P226.

Nice pistol.

I am looking into getting some 3 dot sights, tritium will fit the bill. While the standard dot the i setup work, its not a fast as I find 3 dot to be.

Joe have any more 226 sights?

It's better that you ask him yourself. Search for Dlask Arms on Google for contact info.

I think he has at least 2 more sets of the dying night sights same as those on my P226 now, but for new night sights I am not sure. I was not offered any. I guess you will have to order them somewhere else...

Myself, I'd have ordered a set of new Meprolights and installed them myself. Sig is not exactly easy to deal with. You have to factor in your time for making calls, paying for calls, paperwork if sig wants to see the pistol, shipping wouldn't be free.

What probably happened is the sights that came with your gun were from a different gun or just removed and installed one too many times.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but, I don't think it'll be worth it in the end. You could have maybe returned it right away and got an exchange or had them deal with the sight problem.

But now it is too late... be happy with what you got now it looks new, $65 installed with sights is acceptable. Next time buy new ;) we all have experiences like this that we learn from :) I've had my fair share.

For your sights
i have notice that sigs with high round counts tend to do that
no biggie really
try red LOCKTITE that might sort yourself out
and as for the adjustment tool, its not required just try a punch with a light(and i mean light) ball pean hammer. and more locktite
you might want new sight down the road if the problem isn't sorted out

now if you are a new shooter ..... it can take alot to develop a constant shooting style once you get your sights solid just work on closing a group with the same point of aim and then adjust once your confident .
dove tail pistol sights are not ment to be moved around alot.
cheers

I am ordering my self a pair of mepro's from the states. TSE wants 169 for them, and I can get the same pair from the US for 69 + duty and taxes and conversion I can't see it being more than 110 (I'll get it shipped gift and its a small package so its gonna be alot cheaper)

Now, green/green or should I get something else???

The ones that are on my gun now are the older generation of Meprolight night sights. But obviously the new ones are much better.

I saw that they are now at US$99 a set (front + back sights) on Brownells. Where did you find the $69 price? Care to share with us?

I was out there at the range last Saturday with Terry and his wife. I tried out their P226 for a bit. It is a very nice pistol. Seems very "new", except for that problem with the rear site.

Terry was mainly concerned that there was some problem with the barrel alignment, so the rear site issue was (comparatively) good news.

It's a bit much though when your "Certified Pre-Owned" handgun has a rear site that you can just push out with your finger. Whoever is "certifying" these at Sig Sauer is clearly taking their duties quite lightly.

I tired playing around with the rear site a bit, there was almost no resistance as you push the site one way or another. To use Loctite would just goop up the channel, and I'm not sure that would work, or work for very long.

I like 3-dot sites better than SIG "dot the I" sites anyway. Terry is a do-it-yourself kind of guy, and in my opinion, if you take a gun back to a gun store for warranty work, you better be prepared to do without it for 4-6 months minimum. An this includes the "good guys" at Reliable Gun and Tackle. (and yes, unfortunatey, I do have personal experience with this. I really question whether I will ever take a gun back to a dealer again). Taking it to Joe Dlask is by far the way to go, in my view. His turnaround time seems to be very fast too. It was just April 7th that we were at the range. The new sites are already on the gun and ready to go for this weekend? In that situation the 65 bucks is insignifigant.

Joe Dlask does have some other night sights, but at 50% glow for 70 bucks I don't see the point. Just out of curiosity, what are your sights marked? Do you have the #8 front, and whatever the rear is (I think #8 aswell)

I will be ordering from ArizonaGunRunners along with some 10 round Mec-Gar P226s which are listed for $20. I will be ordering the ML10110's. While thats not the cheapest price on the mags as I found them for $15 from another store, I'd like to just place one order and have it shipped to my parents when they are down in Rhode Island.

If anyone is interested in me picking them up a pair of night sights thats cool, just PM me and we can arrange something.

p226 refurb

I bought a Factory refurbished P226 on impulse last year (also from Reliable)....my first pistol. I thought it would be best to save some bucks on my first buy. (note: I did not get the blue band in my red case).

External finish was pretty good, usual external barrel markings, slight holster wear on trigger guard. I had to get Reliable to blow out some residue/oil in the action before I took it home.

For some reason my factory refurb came with Hogue finger grips (no factory grips) and tritium sites (still some glow). I guess it was sorta pre-tweaked by whomever had it as a service sidearm (in Germany?).

First day at range....no target stands available, range was packed, and I had to test shoot it at 25yrds.

1st shot....no lie....Bulls Eye!! Beginners luck..... Every shot after that was no where near as good, but I think she is pretty accurate. After reading your post I will take a closer look at my sights, but over all I am pretty happy. Probably get a .45 next....I agree with the previous post that the p220's do look much newer than the p226 refurbs.

That is exactly what I feel, too.

It only took Dlask half a day to install the sights and to sight them in with laser bore sighter. I also believe it was 65 bucks well spent.

you can always peen the lower edge of the sight that fits in the dovetail to make it hold. just in case you come across this again, it's an easy fix
