I bought the shotgun a week or so ago from S&J Hardware and finally got a chance to shoot it the other day so wanted to do a review.

This is an Uzkon AS-44 tactical SBS with a full accessory treatment from S&J Hardware.

Specs:

- Made in Turkey, aluminum receiver with matte black finish.
- 13” barrel with 3 x chokes (Browning/Mossberg Invector)
- 4+1, 2 ¾ shell capacity. (5+1 depending on shell maker)
- Pistol grip full length stock.
- S&J jumbo safety.
- S&J no jam follower.
- King Armory Hatsan side saddle mount and Tacstar saddle.
- S&J receiver sling plate. (included)
- S&J Magpul/870 stock adapter and sling attachment.
- Magpul SGA stock w/ Remington Supercell recoil pad.

I own various Turkish brand shotguns, this is my first from the Uzkon brand. Compared to Hatsan, the fit and finish is comparable with a slight edge going to Hatsan. A significant difference in the smoothness of the action is also noticeable.
The Uzkon takes more effort and sticks upon opening the action. All my Hatsans are smooth as glass when cycling.

I would say the Uzkon has more in common with the Sinsinati and Akar brands (same trigger guard, chokes, bolt and sights) than the Hatsan brand of Turkish shotguns.

At the range I used three brands of shells through the gun.

- Challenger 7.5 target load – Normally this stuff runs great in every shotgun I own. Theses shells were sticking in the chamber 3/5 times requiring force to open the action to eject the shell. (That gets annoying real fast)
- Winchester #5 shot – I don’t like this ammo in my Remington’s, so reserve it for use in my Turkish guns as they don’t mind it. These shells were also sticking in the chamber and would not eject 3/5 times as well.
- Score 1oz slugs – This was the only ammo that cycled and ejected properly. (albeit only 10 rounds fired)

This gun may require a chamber polish, or more break in time…even though I fired nearly 100 rounds through it. It might just prefer Score ammo too, so I’ll bring more out next time with it. Patterning with target loads was nice and tight, using an Improved Modified choke.

Overall, a great deal from Simon at S&J considering the value of the accessories provided with the gun. Only “sticking” point was the continious FTE and sticky action. Hoping it’s just an ammo issue and not a defect. I did notice that the extractor housing inside the barrel insert is machined a little rough. So I wonder if the extractor is getting hung up upon opening the action causing you to use more force than usual to open the action. We’ll see after some more rounds.

How do you like the fit of the SGA stock using the adapter? Does the added length make any difference for operation of the safety, trigger or slide realease?
Good question. I do notice a difference with the bit of added length. But I don't feel it's detrimental or uncomfortable when operating the safety or trigger.

Would you happen to have a direct side view that shows the SGA and adapter? I am considering getting the adapter and an SGA stock for my Uzkon AS41 if it does not sell.
Thanks

I wouldn't buy from S&J again. 2 emails and no response to the Uzkon I just bought that was shipped with no chokes or a manual. Non-Existent customer service so far.

Your email keeps bouncing back to us. I even send you a email from phone and my personal account . Same issue
Your 20ga uzkon does not come with choke tubes.
As for the manual. If did not come with one
You best bet is to contact the importer for a copy or a PDF.
Again I would but. There is an email issue

Please don't enter my thread for the sole purpose of dumping on and smearing a reputable CGN dealer.

What's the chest rig your using? I'm looking for something to hold 12g shells and some mag pouches for my grizzly mags.
It's a chest rig I put together because I was tired of carrying stuff in my pockets and having to walk back to my truck so often to reload.

The vest is a coyote brown Tactical Tailor 1 piece MAV with molle webbing.

It's got two OD 5.11 shotgun shingles on the sides and a centralized OD Condor ammo pouch. It's very comfortable to wear and reload ergonomics are great.

Looks like a good set up for 12GA. Like an SOE rig but not so blukly.

Thanks, yeah it's definitely SOE inspired. I also have a bib for it but late last summer I realized that I didn't like how the bib forced the buckles higher up and on top of my collarbones. Creating awkwardness and discomfort with pinching from the recoil.
I also like having the vest high up on my chest, so ditching the bib helped with that too.

I also have a small admin pouch on it for my truck keys and phone. I hate crap in my pockets when shooting.
There are two OD 5.11 shell holders on there too holding 5 shells each. One on the far left of the vest and one on webbing on the side of the ammo pouch. Total capacity is about 75 shells.

yes i like my shells up high too, on my plate carrier i run a 5 shot un high on my chest, easy to get to when our in funny positions

So, it sounds like you prefer the hatsan's? Has the reliability of the Uzkon improved? I'm very interested in the Turkish guns, but there's a lot of choices in this category and I'm in no hurry. I like how the Uzkon doesn't have the fibre optic sight I've seen on the Hatsans (looks fragile to me) and that it comes with chokes.

I haven't had a second outing yet with the Uzkon. (All free time has been spent fishing)

So far I do prefer the Hatsan , but I am very accustomed to it compared to the Uzkon.
The Hastans just cycle so smoothly. Reminiscent of Fabarm shotguns.
The chokes are a big advantage for me too with the Uzkon.
The red fibre optic site on the Hatsans is nothing to worry about. I haven't had any concerns with the three I have.
