My appologies if this has already been posted ( I did a search and came up with nothing). So how much leg work am I looking at to upgrade to a restricted licence? Yes yes I know I was stupid and should have done both exams but I can't do anything to change that now. I really want my restricted but that depends on how much more work is involved in upgrading. Thanks alot for the info!

Pretty much the same process as your PAL.

Take the course, pass the exams, (or just challange the exams), send all your stuff in and wait.

No charge for the upgrade thanks to the Conservatives amnesty.

Do the course, pass the tests and you're done. You'll have to join a club too.

I agree with sunray. My wife passed her PAL and RPAL in a one weekend course in April. Now, she is the the proud possesser ( tricky spelling ) of her Restricted PAL.

Yes, in BC join a club and send your membership info to BC CFO.

She does not own any guns yet but, her ATT is good to transport my guns to the range... if she desires to go shooting when I am not available.

cheers from BC

Sending in the whole application again does not seem logical imo. If one is already qualified to own non restricted then why bother chasing references and such for a restricted. Clearly, if a reason exists for an individual not to own a restricted firearm then they shouldn't be in posession of non restricted either.

Applying logic to gun control will only make your ears smoke...

Choose your references wisely. Other shooters are the safest bet.

If you're in Ontario, you have more hoops to jump through before you'll be able to get your ATT to shoot your restricted.

What is involved the challenging the test? I have a buddy at work who wants to do this too. If he has to take the course again, it is hardly free to upgrade.

I called the firearms centre and to upgrade all you have to do is pass the restricted exam and submit a new application with a new photo. You don't have to redo the nonrestricted as a copy of your exam is all ready in their filing system. There is no fee if you already hold a pal licence.

I upgraded from a restricted POL to a restricted PAL this winter.

I challenged both exams (50 common sense questions each) and did a practical exam.

If you've ever handled firearms before you can pass the written and practical easily but to be sure download the study guides and read through them.

The instructor will give you a piece of paper for each exam saying you passed. Photocopy these and send them with your application. As was said before, it doesn't cost any money to upgrade your license but challengin the exams will still cost you. I think it was $60 each.

It was pretty painless. I had my new one in 32 or 33 days.

One of my references missed the call from the CFO so I got him to call them then the application went right through. I can see how this would stall things, just be aware of it.
