For a good many years, a shotgun has accompanied me on Moose hunting trips to the B.C. central interior.

A single shot Ranger 410, used just for 'Ditch Chickens' on the way back to camp after a morning hunt and/or on afternoon scouting trips. Over the years, it's provided us with many a good feed.

Today, It was retired and replaced with a Savage model 311, SxS and also in 410. The opportunity presented itself ;)and I couldn't turn it down:d.

That will work Johnn... I have a nice little 28 gauge SXS that I really for casual trips... my serious grousing has always been with various Citori's... but I have a nice little BSS 20 gauge on the way as I type this...

 In hindsight, I guess I should've had this in the Hunting and Sporting Shotgun forum. Oh well, I may as well keep the error going. The SxS 410 and the single shot before it, filled a special purpose. As I've mentioned, Ditch Chickens during Moose trips. For upland birds, I have two that get the call. For the dryer days, a 12ga. English double by J.S Boreham.

For the days when we're experiencing our 'Wet Coast Sunshine', an older 20ga Ruger Red Label

Wakling the old logging skid roads on wet & windy days, where both Ruff Grouse & Blacktail are a possibility, A Bruno Combo 304 in 7x57R & 12ga.

And, Waterfowl, an AYA 10ga. 3 1/2" Mag. SxS

Was the 311 a scoop at the SVIR show today? I got there early & got the goodies I was after.
The 311's are good guns for bush bashin' & quite reliable. Only wish they made a hammer model.;)

No, and actually, I completely for got about the SVIR show. However, with my acquisitions of late, my madd money account is just about tapped out. Where it originated from is a guy I used to work with in production before I got into the trades. He had six or eight firearms his wife had suggested it may be time to get rid of and he asked me about that task. Buying, just to flip for a few bucks isn't something I'm interested in. To buy for a decent price, to shoot and use in the field come hunting season and to make a couple of bucks if & when I decide to sell, yes. I put him on to a friend that is into that aspect of things and they made a deal. I expressed an interest in the SxS 410 and we made a trade for that single shot 410 I had and a sporterized Lee Enfield that had recently been given to me.

During archery moose hunts we kill grouse with slingshots and Benji HB-20 pistols.

A choice that brings back memories.;)I'm going back in history a bit, to the pre-surgical rubber days when red rubber inner tubes were the best choice of the day. Dad had the garage in the small town in the interior so I had the corner on the red rubber market. Long story short, the R.C.M.P. office there had a drawer fairly full of a collection of some of my creations. I recall, our choice for Grouse ammo was shattered small drill core samples from the two local hard rock gold mines. With the holding the sling shot sideways, at reasonably close range, you could clip the heads off of Fools Hens.
I have a modern day creation and my days as a juvenile delinquent paid off. I had a Heron robbing my Gold Fish pond, until I 'pulled' feathers out of him.
:redface:Hate to admit it, but I have yet to draw blood with my bow, although, this winter nursing a bad shoulder was keeping me away from archery.

Jeez, I've really strayed off the path now. Opps:redface:.

You've some nice looking shotguns but for me I usually carry the Savage 24C which can be carried very compactly and I feel the cylinder bore with # 8 or #9 shot is more effective. The light pellets rarely make it far enough to damage the breast but there are enough to break wings or legs or go throughout the head depending on angle.
