Ive taken my most accurate Mosin, a remarkably non-collectable post-war Polish M44 that arrived import-engraved, refinished, etc. and intend to make it into a hunting rifle - but not sporterized.
Other than the following modification, I do not intend to Bubba it. The bayonet has been removed, and the bayonet lug carefully cut and filed down to a barrel band, polished and reblued. i intend to make no more permanent modifications. some people are already wincing at the filing down of the bayonet lug but this is a non-collectable rifle and theres no way i will find an M38 in this condition. i can live with an unaltered Mosin as a hunting rifle but the foot long pigsticker and two sharp prongs sticking out the side of the barrel had to go.
my question is, are the Mojo aftermarket peep sights like this one worth the money (~$100 by the time i get them to Canada)?
(this is not a Mosin - they dont have any pics of the Mosin sight)
id normally jump all over any no-gunsmithing sight upgrade that does not alter the factory condition of the rifle or require drilling/tapping, but the extreme forward mount of the peep makes me skeptical about just how much of an upgrade these sights will be. the rear aperture will be about 16" from my eyes!
anyone have any experience with them? should i spend the money for them or just stick with the factory U-notch sights?
***edit:
would be pretty cool to find one of these:
although id imagine theyre a lot more expensive than the $4 they originally sold for
